Biden: Obama Might Use Executive Order to Deal With Guns
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/biden-obama-might-use-executive-order-deal-guns_694984.html
Vice President Joe Biden revealed that President Barack Obama might use an executive order to deal with guns.
"The president is going to act," said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. "There are executives orders, there's executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required."
Biden said that this is a moral issue and that "it's critically important that we act."
Biden talked also about taking responsible action. "As the president said, if you're actions result in only saving one life, they're worth taking. But I'm convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of americans and take thousands of people out of harm's way if we act responsibly."
Biden, as he himself noted, helped write the Brady bill.
Eric Holder was scheduled to be at the meeting that's currently take place at the White House.

1. I like the way they are approaching this, with honesty and courage.

6. I keep thinking that the gun culture issue exposes another problem in America
Why does law enforcement exist? If they can't serve and protect the people, why not? If there isn't enough money to put enough officers on the streets, we need to spend some of the defense budget to do so. Police also defend the country.
If our streets are so violent and unsafe that Americans must have multiple guns to protect themselves, something is wrong. It's not just mental illness, violent movies/tv/games, it's more than that. I'd rather have more well trained, regulated, law enforcement officers on the streets with guns than a bunch of strangers who I'm told I must trust to be responsible.
There are fire stations all over the country, but yet you probably have a fire extinguisher in your house. Should we simply just hire more firemen so you don't need the extinguisher?

8. Citizens with guns
are not for your protection sir. Its for their own. You can call the police if you'd like but plan on them being there in minutes when seconds count.
He's already banned.

10. all the more reason not to have a gun
because it's 7x more likely to be used against yourself or a family member than an intruder.
You have a point DUmmy, people like you will probably shoot your life partner, your dog or yourself in the foot so you have the choice not to own a gun. Responsible people on the other hand will not do something stupid with their guns, you have no right to punish the responsible folks because you can't be trusted with anything sharper than the dull end of a crayon.

20. If citizens with guns are not for my protection, then the have to
stop using the 2nd Amendment as an excuse for being able to own guns.
Let's make up our minds.
Publish the names so I know who I can call on when the government unfairly comes for me. An online database would be nice.

How about we publish the names of those who don't own a gun that way it will be safer for the thugs that want to rob your house.

21. The President can do certain things by Executive Order.
But doing something like the assault weapons ban requires Congress.
"The things Obama can get done through executive order are much smaller. They include "changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives," the Post says. Other Congress-less reforms floated include tracking gun buyers' history of mental illness, sharing more information between state and local law enforcement, keeping information on gun sales longer, and banning the importation of military-style weapons."

It has to be something that pertains to the powers of the executive branch to begin with.
So he can ban guns based on that he thinks they are military style?

28. Presidential power
Agreed. The president starts using EO's for something like this to sidestep the constitution and it opens a major can of worms. The question is; if it works, what other constitutional right will he sidestep? What if the Repubs win back the White House as they eventually will, will THAT president do the same to do whatever he or she wants?
Another concern troll.

23. You know, putting out an EO to actually enforce existing gun laws...
Would do a ton
Did Taverner just post a NRA talking point on DU?
I could swear the NRA has said that we have enough laws, just enforce the ones on the books.
