From 2012 in the New York Times, but worth reading. An ideology that promotes bitterness and hatred. They ave a need for enemies.

I will tell you why we are happier than liberals
We are productive members of society
We don't take any shit from anyone
We understand and respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights
We respect the Flag Old Glory and what she stands for
We respect  and support the US Military
We have ethics and common sense
I am sure there are more

Having a defined sense of purpose is one of the major factors that determine a person's happiness.  Conservative beliefs support people finding a sense of purpose while liberal beliefs do not.
