Federal regulations blamed for Georgia utility closing 15 coal, oil power plantsThe announcement was hailed by environmental activists but lamented by coal industry advocates, who say the Obama administration is “targeting†their industry.In recent months, several utilities have made similar announcements, saying they opted to close aging coal plants rather than pay hundreds of millions of dollars to install pollution-control equipment to comply with federal clean-air rules.Georgia Power used coal to produce 70 percent of its electricity as recently as five years ago, but now gets less than half its juice from the fossil fuel, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Officials said the lost capacity will be replaced with nuclear energy and natural gas.
Obama plainly said he was going after the coal industry."Officials said the lost capacity will be replaced with nuclear energy and natural gas"......and I guess we'll outlaw fracking next, huh.
That is their goal, outlaw coal, ALL petro produts and have nothing but wind, solar and nuke...ALL of them require a taxpayer subsidy.
Even coal ones do as well, although not to the extent of the others. Then again, if you've ever seen the paperwork and the QC that goes into a nuke, you'd understand why they cost so much to build and run.
It's also expensive for a nuke plant even to get past the planning stage.
Thank government regulators and eco-nuts for that. Don't get me wrong, nukes aren't anything to screw with if you don't know what you're doing, but dragging the process out to the point where it takes a decade (or more) and several BILLION dollars before the first shovel of dirt is dug is bullshit.
They have done the same thing for new oil refineries, too.
