Paul Ryan Takes To Talk Radio To Defend Fiscal Cliff Vote

PEMA LEVY JANUARY 4, 2013, 6:00 AM 2593
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) joined a minority of his fellow House Republicans this week in voting for the fiscal cliff deal that allowed tax rates to rise on the top one percent of taxpayers. For the next two days, he took to the conservative talk radio circuit in order to defend that vote.

“We had been hit with a $4.4 trillion dollar tax increase yesterday, and I had the opportunity to knock it down by $3.8 trillion dollars,” Ryan told radio host Hugh Hewitt Wednesday. Since tax rates had already reverted back to Clinton-era levels for everyone once the vote took place January 1, he argued, he was actually voting to cut taxes.

In addition to allowing tax rates to rise on income over $400,000 for individuals ($450,000 for households), many conservatives, including the 151 Republican representatives who did not back the bill, also took issue with the deal because it lacked serious spending cuts and entitlement reform measures.

But Ryan pushed back against this line of criticism as well. With the tax issue to bed, Ryan said, House Republicans would have significant leverage to demand spending and entitlement cuts in exchange for a raise in the federal debt ceiling projected to take place in two months.

“That’s what we’re all working on strategizing,” Ryan said. “How do we get the most of spending cuts and reforms during this debt debate?”

I like Paul Ryan but he blew it on this. Then he has the nerve to say that he knocked down the damage to only 3.8 trillion.  :mental:

My congressman, Steve Sutherland, voted against the tax increase then he turned around and voted to put Boner back in the speaker position.

Why is it that the good guys still find ways to piss me off?

1. I bet the teabaggeratti are spanking him so he came out to make them stop

LOL! Why else would he bother.

Well DUmmy let me splain this to you. We don't blindly follow anyone no matter how much we admire and respect them. When they blow it we let them know it. He violated everything the TEA party stands for. I doubt any of you goons even know what TEA stands for. It stands for Taxed Enough Already. This doesn't mean we will throw him under the bus, if he rejoins the fight to not raise taxes he will be praised, but if he pulls this compromise shit again then he may find himself being challenged during the next primary.

You goons think the TEA party is dead, we have only just begun and no matter how many election cycles it takes we will do whatever we need to do to keep you assholes from destroying this country.

4. Paul Ryan is useless. The Bush tax breaks expired. Pres. O pushed for tax breaks for first 400k.

Quit trying to make yourself look helpfull to America or Americans Mr. Ryan, the testosterone creams are going to your head.

Actually DUmmy preezy O pushed for tax increases, he finally compromised just a little, but he will be coming for the 200k people before too long. Then when he is done with the rich he will be coming for the middle class too.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.
