Democrats pull plug on gun, ammo bans

SPRINGFIELD — There’s not enough support in the Illinois Senate to impose tough new restrictions on semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

In a setback for gun-control advocates in the wake of the killings of school children in Connecticut, the Illinois Senate was poised to adjourn Thursday without voting on two pieces of legislation aimed at limiting access to certain kinds of weapons and bullets.

Although the two proposals could emerge again when the legislature reconvenes next week, the lack of action shows the General Assembly remains divided on how to balance Second Amendment issues.

A spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, offered no timetable for when the gun safety proposals might surface again.

If this can't make it through the Illinois legislature, with a majority Democrats, why does anyone think we stand a chance of getting anything similar through the US House of Representatives?

Let's just pray this doesn't turn into 1994 all over again.

This proposed legislation was scary. It would have banned all modern weapons made in the last 150 years and all ammo.

Proud to have been banned by pro-gun toting host, who allowed RDigital back in gun group only to see him banished. LMAO on that one. Say hello to those who can't venture out of their house without a gun in their pants. Ask them to actually act responsible during 2013 and stop adding more guns to the nation's weapons cache, and opposing rational gun laws that might not be to their gun loving liking.

Enjoy your lethal weapons and jig with your buddies. http://www.democraticunderground.com/117299682

If that's true, why did you post there instead of ignoring the forum?

This sort of reactionary bullshit makes it harder to actually pass meaningful, impactful gun reform, like opening up NICS to public access, so people can do a background check for a private transfer, or registration that carries benefits, rather than penalties, so we can stem the flow of straw purchases and unlawful transfers.

You mistake some 'gungeoneers' as being entirely opposed to ANY regulation at all, and consequently, well, like the Illinois bill, results in nothing getting done.

Which leads to this:

check. But most private sellers don't give a crud who they sell to as long as they get a fistful of cash. The NICS should not be opened for abuse by public.

29. Absolutely not true. You let them handle the transfer and pay a relatively small fee.

But, gun sellers really aren't as law-abiding or moral is we are told.

36. Then do it from FFL to another FFL if you really care about who gets your gun. Geeeez you guys

have a million rationales for being an unethical/immoral/irresponsible gun owner.

I bet most of you are quite cozy with your local gun shop owner.

I know for a fact a number of Gugeoneers are gun profiteers with licenses, so get real and stop acting like son (arrested for road rage shooting) of NRA Prez David Keene.

You'll need over 35 states to ratify a change to the US Constitution. Do you really think it would even be close to that at this point?

I do believe that we have 30 Republican Governors in office at the present.

that means We the People cannot give them away.

Individuals for whom those rights are recognized as natural and inherent have compromised with Society by accepting limited infringement for the benefit of society but not infringement to the point of prohibition of an individual's right.

How did he ever manage to get 26K posts?

A little light shines through!  Congratulations on your moment of clarity, DUmbass!  Better not let it last too long or you might just figure out how badly you're getting reamed by your president and his "tax cuts".

At least we agree that if they can't pass that in Nobamas so called home state then they will probably have littile chance in The Us house. Still doesn't mean anyone should stop watching them and keeping the pressure up.

That may be what he tries.  I've got a feeling that one of the Republican Senators would put a 'hold' on it (the US Senate can do that, and the Senator who puts the 'hold' on remains anonymous), and it would go nowhere.  Maybe Ted Cruz, maybe Marco Rubio, maybe Tim Scott, maybe it wouldn't be a Republican at all, but a Dem from a heavily gun-owning state, that's up for re-election (Tim Johnson or Jon Tester come to mind).

I think that it was Tester that initiated the letter, that was signed by several pro gun democrats and sent to obama 3 years ago that said no new gun control laws.
