I guess the good old days of a UAW assembly line worker just tossing a few loose bolts and nuts into the door cavity as a prank before assembling the interior panel are gone now. No more fun and games. Just burn baby burn!

The vandals used an acetylene torch, which requires a skilled operator who must wear a special mask and gloves.

Not really, no special skills or equipment required. However:

Vandals had also used the torch to shear off the steel bolts on nearly a dozen columns. Three others were hacked halfway through at the base, as if someone were trying to cut down a tree.

That might have required some construction knowledge to do the most damage.

The Philadelphia carpenter’s union charges nearly double($63/hour) the rate of the Washington, D.C., Carpenters union ($34/hour), even though D.C.’s cost of living is 12 percent higher. Consequently, Philadelphia has the fourth highest construction costs in the country.
