What hit our customers before transport to the trauma center.

Trust me, the damage done by a .22 Long is spectacularly worst than a .22 short. In the vernacular, the difference between a rife round and a pistol round.

My trauma docs loved us when we managed to find that out. It did determine some of the care and x-rays...all to do with pen value and cavitation potential. The .223 is among the worst...the AK round is actually worst than the .223

So yes, it does matter.

Here is how they were called in Mexico, due do the looks, Cuervo de Chivo, ram's horn.

Incidentally, they also wanted to know the details in a car crash, photos were even better. It's called mechanism of injury.

That is the real world reality check.

En route I wanted to know as well...things like how fast they travel, effective and potential ranges, were like essential to deploy my people.

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/us_politics/2012/12/obama_hikes_pay_select_officials

You will note that Nads was just a lowly EMT.   Ten years and she never even attempted to make ranks of paramedic - a paramedic of course having rank over a lowly EMT.   A paramedic being the one who would have the position to "deploy my people."   A paramedic being qualified to triage victims of serious car accidents and "shootouts."

You know what happens when there is a 911 call involving a serious life threatening medical issue, and the only staff available are EMTs?   They call for mutual support from neighboring community for paramedics.

Ah Nads, I wish I didn't know the shit I do.

Now I ask you - how did she lose for 2012 DOTY??   It just isn't possible.

28. What you are missing is that there were two weapons involved.

View profile
Rifles come with pistol grips, especially this family of assault weapons.

This matters to the detectives right now. If, for the sake of argument, the kid died from a fully automatic AK...it will add decades to the sentence since those are illegal. If this was a semi type, civilian model... Well it s still murder (and it is in the family that should be banned)

The round is the same though.

Of course...they need to find it first, and this ain't a movie script.

It sounds like...a gang hit.

She is such a total badass.

and obviously that isn't the ACTUAL gun used in the picture.

yep.

from the link
The two gunmen opened fire around 12:30 a.m. as Granville was headed for home, according to the witness. The second shooter was armed with a .45-caliber pistol, and the two masked men began spraying gunfire on Beach 15th St. near Heyson Road.

maybe they both shot him. what difference does that make?

from the OP, end of article. did you make it past the picture? did you even click the link?

Police in Queens found AK-47 assault rifle shell casings as well as evidence a .45 pistol was used during the gunfire. No arrests have yet been made in the teen’s murder.

Have you been in a shootout farminator3000???!!!   Have you??!   You slow down!

12. No, an AK is not a pistol

View profile
It came out in 1947... Why the 47.

It is an assault rife and fires rife ammunition, known as Warsaw Pact ammo.

It is slightly smaller than the .223... But not by much.

It is still the most popular riffle in the developing world and you can find it at markets all over Africa, as well as emblazoned in a few national flags.

It was designed with very lose tolerances and yes, you can put it in a pool of mud, shake it and it will fire.

In recent years, irony alert, the sks, a licensed semi auto copy of it, and the Saiga, a civilian version of this, have become very popular in the US. Ironic, since this is what we faced throughout the Cold War. If we have an executive order forbidding the importation of assault rifles, it will be a very real blow to the Russian Weapons industry. We are the main market these days.

And that they are  chambered for the same round. Or that there damn sure are AK pistols. Or maybe that 7.62x39 is .30 caliber not .22(3) and on and on and on.

As for nadin's post, I've never heard any of the medical people around here, from EMTs to physicians, refer to people they work on as customers.

I know some of you here speak Spanish. Does "Cuervo de Chivo" mean ram's horn? I only know enough Spanish to ask a couple of questions and say I don't speak Spanish, but babelfish shows it as translating to "raven of goat".

Partially true. A Paramedic is only as strong as the EMT (Basic) you work with. Sometimes I go so caught up in advanced procedures, I missed something basic that my EMT partner caught. Some calls were basic enough for them to take. Helped keep their skills up.

All the trauma docs I knew wanted to know caliber and handgun/rifle for GSWs, and appriximate MPH of car involved for MVA. Pictures were an added bonus, but we were more concerned about triaging and treating that all the extraneous stuff.

BTW, I would NEVER call the people I cared for (or whose heart rates I now watch) customers. They are patients.

I think the bolded is true in a lot of professions. I know it is in mine also.

Getting back to the medical field (which is not my field at all), many years ago my pregnant sister-in-law was having some serious problems. I think they were bleeding related. They stuck her in the hospital and had all sorts of specialists check her out. No one could come up with an answer. They were to the point that they were considering aborting the baby in order to try to save the mother. Finally, an intern was in the room one day and asked one of the specialists if there was anyway it could be a vitamin K (if I remember correctly) deficiency. Sure enough, that's what it was.

Going out maybe on a bit of a limb here but the visual difference of a wound in a human caused by a .22 short and a .22 long if they are both solid points is probably nil.

A hot, hollow point .22 long riffle  :lmao: round will probably be different but have no idea if any or all .22 caliber handguns will accept the round.

The chance of nutcase nadin knowing the difference between a long and a long rifle is zero.

Can you even buy longs these days? I don't even see shorts.

Shit, when I was a kid, I just bought whatever .22 ammo was cheapest since my allowance was a whopping $5/week.  CCI was pretty reasonable back in the day.  Even now, Federal ammo over at KTP isn't too horribly overpriced.

Wish .45 was reasonably priced these days.

Yeah, about that...no.  The main difference is the case length, the bullets in these two cartridges and their muzzle velocities are pretty similar, hence so are their exterior and wound ballistics.  The .22 Long is so rare today that you probably couldn't find a store in the average city that stocked any of them, and .22 Shorts aren't particularly common either, for that matter.

And yeah, the only comparison between the SKS and the AK-47 is they both fire the same round. That's about it. The AK-74 fires a smaller round, IIRC. The Dragunov, which chambered like an AK-47, fires a 7.62 x 54R, same as a Romanian PSL. Someone should put a leash on Nads.
