In fact, I have not shoveled this much snow since the blizzards of the late 70's. We have had an approx. total of 2 feet of 'global warming :rotf:' fall in my area in us this last week.

Meh--I wouldn't worry about it.  I've only lived here 6 years now but the winter of 2007-08 was by far the worst from a snow standpoint.  The vent to my leach field in the front yard was buried by the second week of December and I didn't see it again until mid-April.  I had snow in the back (north-facing) yard until the first of May.

10 FEET of snow that year.  And by no means is that anywhere what people get in northern NY off lake-effect stuff, etc.

I see a snow blower or a plow attachment for my riding mower in the near future. I'm too old to shovel like this. LOL!

It is hard for us to justify buying such things because we are on the line that gets the snow/rain/ice mixtures as opposed to mostly snow. As good as our county is at coming out here in the country to plow/salt/sand the roads, they don't plow my 100 ft driveway. LOL!

We wound up with about 6 inches, drifting to close to 10 inches. Last year, I didn't break out my snowblower once. This was a first time for this year, but something tells me it won't be the last.

Sparky talks about the winter of 07-08. Here in northern MO, it wasn't that bad. But I still remember the year 04-05 during which time Mrs E and I lived in NE Ohio.

Holy Mother of God. I've seen some snow in my day, but we got a constant barrage of it, especially through December. It was enough to get me to start looking for another job.

If I never see another snowflake as long as I live it'll be too soon. I hate this crap.  :argh:

It was 9 deg. this morning, with a projected high of 34. Sunny, cold, 10 mph wind.

I did NOT take the dogs out for a walk this morning.

I have never shovelled snow.  I let it fall and lay where it may.  Just like with my leaves.

Some cities have ordinances that require you to clean your sidewalks or face a fine. I live out in the country so that's not the case. I just have a 100 ft driveway that I need to keep clean enough to use.

There you go, talking about Chicago again.

I plow about 600' of driveway, and an additional 200' out in the street to the mailbox, and I also plow a 120' driveway for a neighbor.

If we are bragging then;

I have a hat that says "I survived the Blizzard of '96".

" the BLIZZARD OF '96...when Philadelphia was hit with 30+ inches of snow and all interstates & the PA Turnpike closed in the entire state..."

This is the only time I remember the governor telling everyone to "stay off the roads".  The national guard was called out from other counties to plow interstates. The south-east part of the state was by far the worst hit by the storm.  :snowblower:

No bragging - just what I do, just fact.

Last February my wife had problems getting me home from the hospital; with a combination of drifting snow, police roadblocks and icy and unplowed streets, it took us 2.5 hours to make a normally 20 minute trip. Thank God for my good neighbors, who plowed our driveway to keep us at least a little cleared out. We drove through 2' of snow to get to the garage.

Chicago was shut down for that storm, as was our area.

But blizzards like that are very rare; normally a big snowfall is about 8'.

I remember that the winter before that one was 'lacking' in snow.  Also, one of the two teachers that lived a floor below us told me, "I wish we'd have a snow day."  When we had the fifth one in Jan/Feb that next winter, I was out shoveling my Saturn out, and I asked said pretty, young teacher, "Had enough effin' snow days yet?"  Both she and her (prettier) roommate answered me by throwing snowballs at me.

I don't know how you guys do it.  I lived in Colorado Springs one winter when my husband was stationed at Ft. Carson.  It was a great learning experience for me.  I learned I didn't want to live where it snowed....

I can go and visit it here in our local mountains, but playing in it isn't the same as living in.   :-)

I know my son had school until almost the very last day of June 2010 to make up for all the snow days they had to take!

It was much more fun when I was young, that's for sure. I was a teenager in the Blizzards of the of the late 70's. While I shoveled a lot of snow then, I still got to go out and play in it too because we were out of school for almost one month.

When my son helps me shovel, he gets distracted and wants to start playing. I'm OK with that as long as the job gets done. You're only young once.

Don't you guys get water rationing?

It's got to be over 100° in Melbourne right now.

Yeah that shithole is getting a good dose of summer heat. Sucks to be them.

It's only 84deg @ 65%RH here now though.

My town has just started water rationing - where we're limited in hours and days that we're allowed to use sprinklers. The wet season is late - but when it finally arrives there'll be enough water about to sate any desire. Our yearly rainfall is measured in meters.  :-)
