TheMightyFavog (12,960 posts) Desert Storm General Norman Schwarzkopf dies http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20121227/us-obit-schwarzkopf/?utm_hp_ref=green&ir=green WASHINGTON — A U.S. official says retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who commanded the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991, has died. He was 78. The official tells The Associated Press that Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla. The official wasn't authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. A much-decorated combat soldier in Vietnam, Schwarzkopf was known popularly as "Stormin' Norman" for a notoriously explosive temper. He lived in retirement in Tampa, where he had served in his last military assignment as commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command. That is the headquarters responsible for U.S. military and security concerns in nearly 20 countries from the eastern Mediterranean and Africa to Pakistan.
cbrer (1,233 posts) 1. RIP Gen. SchwarzkopfMy old commander in Desert Shield/Storm We used to jokingly refer to him as General Pimple. His name, translated from German is BlackHead. A damned fine field commander, and strategist.Reply to this postBack to top Alert abuse Link here PermalinkResponse to cbrer (Reply #1)Thu Dec 27, 2012, 08:23 PMloli phabay (2,173 posts) 13. i had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions in theater. always thought highly of him

dems_rightnow (1,849 posts) 15. He did exactly what you would have done......... had you been a general ordered to conduct military operations. He just did it better.
Taverner (51,278 posts) 16. "I vuz just following orders"If I remember, that didn't work too well at Nuremberg
Will Freeman@ConfusedAlotGuy For those of you not old enough to remember Norman Schwarzkopf, he used to kill Muslim women and children before it was cool.

Going all Godwin over a war that was authorized by the United Nations Security CouncilLast edited Thu Dec 27, 2012, 08:38 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)is pretty ****ed up. You might want to read up on UNSC Resolution 678. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_Resolution_678 The Gulf War was 100% legal and in fact was REQUIRED under international law.
Tav is one of those people I'd rather just punch in the face than ever try to reason with or attempt to find any redeeming qualities.
Same here, but I'm afraid I'd run the risk of knocking something loose in his empty cranium and his posts would start making sense.IOW, he'd become a human being.
The fact that a good man like Stormin Norman is no longer with us, and Tavs is still living seems wrong.
God has a habit, if you watch carefully, off clearing the best of us from the splatter zone, right before he mashes the 'Smite' button. The General was 78 years old. Where would you rather he was; safely enfolded in the arms of the God he knew and loved for most of his life, or trying to dodge Molotov cocktails when the 4 horsemen of the DUmbass Apocalypse come riding through?
I've noticed that, as well. Maybe it's up to us to evade those Molotovs.
