On Saturday past, Adolph "Bud" Herseth, principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, died at his home in Oak Park, IL. He was 91.
Bud Herseth was the principal trumpet of one of the world's premier orchestras from 1948 until he stepped down in 2001, some 53 years. This was unprecedented.
Bud sat alongside some of the finest brass players in the world. Arnold Jacobs (tuba); Dale Clevenger (horn); Jay Friedman (trombone); Gail Williams (horn); Charlie Vernon (bass trombone); Gene Pokorny (tuba).
