Do I overthink things?
« on: December 26, 2012, 09:41:03 AM »
I was reading an article on Operation Christmas Drop wherein the Air Force makes parchute airdrops to the natives of the Federated Micronesian States.

It's a nice story and I recommend reading it:

http://airman.dodlive.mil/2012/12/christmas-drop/

Then, at the end of the article I saw this pic:

The first thing I noticed was the honky in the background so I read the caption and as I had suspected it is the Airman who provided most of the background for the story.

Then I noticed the absence of women.

I wondered why and the next detail that struck me was the skirts the men wear. It makes sense considering where they live. Since the Airman is similarly clad I presume he's taking a "when in Rome" stance on his assignment.

Now, I'm pretty sure Islam has not infected this part of the world so I assume the women aren't being held hostage in their own homes while the men do man things.

I was wondering if perhaps the women aren't similarly clad.

If that is the case then modesty is not the issue keeping the women from the picture. There is no reason for native women to feel embarrassed or disrespected for walking about as they have for thousands of years and probably will for centuries more.

If that is the case was it the DoD that prohibited native women for appearing in the photo?

If so that would be very upsetting. I would hate to think that a society as "multi-cultural" as the US cannot endure the sight of boobehz in a non-pornographic context.

Seems pretty standard and harmless to me, Snugs.

I'm not sure where you're getting your info about Islam. This paper documents a fairly consistent and steady presence of Roman Catholicism since the end of WWII, (actually the RC faith was brought to the region in the 1730s by a Jesuit priest) though Falalop Island doesn't have quite the religious oomph that the chief island, Mogmog, has.

Have another eggnog and relax. The Muzzies haven't taken over the planet quite yet.  :-)

Freeper's right.  This photo op was most likely seen by the locals as a 'man thing' rather than a 'woman-' or 'everybody thing.'  In most of the non-Western world, interacting with furriners is something for the men to do, not the women, and by and large they prefer to keep it that way.  And back in the day, yeah, the women wore pretty similar attire, bare titties and all, but not so much any more.

A lot of them still go topless, the pernicious influence of moralistic busybodies from the West has made some inroads on the practice compared to days gone by, though.

If white women are topless it's pornography.

If brown or black-skinned women are topless it's a documentary.

It's a rare find indeed, however, when brown or black-skinned women have perky boobiez. They're usually floppy, disgusting looking things that look like afterthoughts.

Not sure about your comment here.  The woman all look young, may never have fed  kids until they were 3 or 4 years old.  Thinking of a photo from life that came out after the war in the Phillipeans that a Doctor had framed in his office.  It showed a young mother breast feeding a child that had a lit cigar in one of its hands, must have been close to 5-6 years old.

Men, you take your culture and cannot understand others.  These woman and men do seldom look at a bare breasted woman other then a woman with a tool to feed a child, not as a sex object.

Yes I know some men get off on bare feet but I doubt the people shown do.  The toe suckers that pop up from time to time for accosting women in stores wearing sandals.

So say you Eupher were in a war torn country, wife died in child birth and you found you were lactating and could keep the baby alive.  The war goes on for years and it is difficult for you alone to find food to keep yourself alive.  But your Son can survive on your milk.

I remember reading about the Russian leaders going to as young men to visit Siberia as the story's of cannibals and starvation was getting out of hand.  To their dismay they found that not only were the story's true but some swore that in some places that the woman had died off, men in a few cases to save the race had indeed begun to lactate and feed their infants.

After a few years of having to feed a child from your own body, what do you think your own titties would look like,  up and perkey ?????

Give me a break, the woman with the low hanging boobs you speak of may be only 17 years old having given birth to a child at 13 or younger.  Brest fed the child until they were 3 years old.  [ some cultures believe a woman that is breastfeeding cannot get pregnant ]

Arggggg, boobzies are a tool not a play thing, like a car, gun or hammer, reason why mammals have boobs to keep the born alive.

Ask your self this, have you ever ran into a well fleshed woman with tiny boobs ?????  You like big boobs, some men like a big butt, some like other parts of the body, normal in our society.    However to make a flat out statement that a picture of a strange woman you know nothing about is dreadfull  because of the size, shape of her life giving body appendage's is horrid.

Culture can be strange, even in the US.

I recall a photo in an early thirties edition of Nat'l Geographic of a very poor extended white family of about fifteen or twenty in southern Mississippi with many young children. They were all dressed literally in rags, but they were all happy and smiling. They were happy.

Obviously, there was no "social media" available to use for comparing themselves to others. If there had been, they would have been complaining for food stamps, SSDI, unemployment insurance, and a host of other benefits.

Not sure about your comment here.  Snip

Then forget about it, vesta. It was a snarky comment not meant to elicit much more than a long-winded post, completely devoid of sanity, from you.

Looks like I succeeded.   :lmao:

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the military has standards for their promo pics, and even Nat-Geo level of tribal nudity does not pass the censor. No biggie.
