The original Queen Mary, built during the early 1930s, was meant to be named the Queen Victoria.

Since it was at the time to be the largest and fastest passenger ship in the world, Cunard wanted the wife of George V of England to christen it.

The wife of George V was Mary of Teck.

So, the chairman of Cunard telephoned the king, asking if his wife would be willing to smash the bottle.

He said yeah, sure, and by the way, what're you going to name it?

The chairman of Cunard said, "We're naming it after the greatest queen of England."

That's good, said George V; "the Queen Mary?"

We do a lot of 2300v and 4160v jobs, some as small as that one, but wound differently. We've done very few of the very high voltage motors because there many around here, and they take a lot more man hours. We're also limited by space, unfortunately.

Thanks for the info. I don't get to play with the internals very much for a couple of reasons. First, if they're broke, we send them out, second, I'm in the protective relay side of the house, so I play with them less than others.

Megger or Baker test them, and let them run. Strange how I've seen 480 motors that are bigger (physically and HP rating) than some 4160 motors.
