If the patient were Joe Smith, a plumber from Toledo, Ohio
would he have been quickly scheduled to undergo a brain surgery at Duke?

I am glad that Kennedy survived the surgery and wish him a full recovery and long and healthy life.

Of course, the wealthy will always have better health care. But as I heard this morning about the upcoming surgery and possible experimental treatment with a "vaccine," I could not help - hey, I am a liberal - thinking of the Joe Smiths of the world with similar brain tumors who were told to get their affairs in order, that nothing could be done.

I don't know that there is an answer. Perhaps something that we, I, have to accept as law of nature.

as frank would say, this campfire is still small, but it has the potential for lots of humorous hypocrisy.  Already there's THIS gem of pure DUmmy genius....

3. Sharon - you are correct. The influence of the insurance industry is the major
thing ****ing up our health care. Remove the profit and everyone, including Sen. Kennedy and Mr. Smith, would get the best care available.

The latest batch of weed to cross the border must be really, really good.

And they think the goverment can get Joe the Plumber into surgery so much faster.

Jeez.

Idiots.

Remove the profit and everybody will get the lowest possible level care.

Let nothing frighten you.

God alone suffices.

This type of emotional reasoning is always amusing.  Being intelligent, I know what compels the DUmmie to come to the conclusion, which stops far short of the logical conclusion, that removing the potential for profit from medicine will insure the best care for all.

The DUmmie, in his childlike mind, feels that if the potential for profit is removed, all the medical arts will become available on a whim because there is nothing to lose.  The DUmmie's dumb idea is that the lust for profits causes withholding of medical care.  The reality that profit propells activity never crosses the short distance of his mind.

Why, with all the evidence available to everyone that government run health care is a nightmare, the DUmmies and their ilk still shill for the hell-like situation is beyond even me.

Joe Smith may have to worry about a brain tumor someday but the DUmmies won't.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

If Joe Smith is a plummer, he is probably making more than most DUmmies.  In fact, there is a good chance Joe Plummer makes more than the surgeon doing his brain surgery.

Have you seen what plummers GET these days?

Just how many people do they think will spend 8 to 9 years in college and 2+ years in internships and residencies to get a job as a GOVERNMENT GS-9?

How many currently practicing doctors will stay in the profession for such salary levels?

How would you feel getting your brain operated on by a GS-9?

I get to perform brain surgery???

The level of forced ignorance is astounding.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Why? Are the doctors and nurses in those sub-par hospitals automatically going to get better when their paychecks come from the Fed?

BTW, liberal states are having a problem staffing hospitals NOW, what in the HELL makes them think it'll work? Damn they're stupid as ****.

My grandmother has lived in the same small English town for the last 60 years.  A few years ago, she developed cataracts in both eyes.  The NHS put her on a one-year waiting list to have ONE cataract removed.  She had to wait nine more months to have the other one removed.

How the government works:

Some of you may know, my father had a triple heart bypass in January. He's 57. He's a USMC and a Vietnam Veteran. He also is Diabetic and has IgA, a rare disease that attacks the kidneys. After the surgery, he had to go on Dialysis. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for about 4 hours at a time. No WAY could he have kept his job as a salesman. He applied for disability through the Social Security Administration. They say it takes between 90-120 days and if you're rejected, any kind of appeals process takes ANOTHER 90-120 days. This is between 6-8 months if you're rejected.  He has yet to hear from them. Now, they're doing ok because they're not dumb ****ing Democrats looking at SS as a retirement. However, how many DUMBASSocrats are? And this is what they want more of? My father would have starved to death, lost his house, and been homeless if he had no kids, no wife, and no 401K.

Yeah, you ****ing Liberals. GREAT plan you're pushing. Turning everything over to the inept ****ing government who probably couldn't even run a ****ing run a jello wrestling match.  :whatever:

Remove the profit dumbasses and you no longer get new medical procedures or cutting edge technology and meds. Remove the profit and you get people in the medical field leaving in droves so they can actually make a decent living for their educational efforts. Remove the profit and you get wait lists and rationing. Brain surgery? Forget about that, it will take you about a year to even get it diagnosed that far you fools!

These idiots always amaze me, they want a ****ing livable wage for some pimple-faced grocery store bagger at Kroger or some border hopping criminal digging a ditch, but they expect the scientist and the doctor to work for free. They are probably the most nonsensical group of individuals joined together in one place and I'm saying that even with the Code Pinks of the world around.

i havent read the thread over there - but surely a Canuck will show up and advise them of the wait lists for the 'top doctors' in their country.

Kennedy would be long gone if he were a regular citizen in Canada waiting for brain surgery. and all of Canada's wealthy people come to the states for their urgent care, which includes their politicians.

Or even be willing to enter the field at all.  There's WAY too many ways to make $100K+ a year that doesn't involve having to go to school for 8 years and all the other junk they have to go though as interns.

yep - and again, Canuckistan is the perfect example and isnt too far away to watch.

the 'top doctors' in that country are not home grown. they are typically foreigners from India and Asia who wouldnt pass the credentials in the US.

Ted Kennedy sure didnt run up to Canada to secure their 'top doctor' .. nor did he head to Europe. he found the very best right here in the US. the DUmmies need to sit and think about that for a while.

Their argument would be that under a socialized system everyone would at least have access to them and my response would be is it better to have access to a doctor who is ecucated and adequate, but not the best in his field and start having something like cancer treated immediately, or is it better to be put on a wait list for months, have the cancer metasticize in that time and then be given a death sentence by the best doctor available. DUers(and many others outside of that enclave) don't seem to understand that access too does not mean immediate access too and there are a number of health conditions that could cost someone their life if they had to wait for an opening for care.

No, he won't and no amount of leveling the playing field will change that. It is what it is and it behooves the rest of us to get on with life and deal with its difficulties and be thankful for what we do have. Why that lesson is so hard for them to learn I don't understand. Maybe I do, it's not really about having everything, it is about pulling others down into their misery. I think they know some of these things will make life crappy, but don't care since at least every will be miserable and still others just look at everything with rose-colored glasses and have no concept of being realistic about things like this. You know the types, build Christmas to look a certain way in their heads and when one little detail doesn't work out, they consider all of Christmas ruined and a disaster since we know they will complain endlessly when they don't get exactly what they expected.

No socialist actually wants to live under the rules of socialism.  They just think the rest of us need socialism in order to make life equally unfullfilling for all the little people.

Every socialist believes he is part of the elite who does not need socialism.  They all believe when the day comes they will be of the ones who live on a barrier island, exempt from the rules, watching the mainland through telescopes and monitors as they dictate to the little people on the mainland what they need in order to make the little people's lives "fair" and "equal".

good catch - exactly, in the SOUTH where that doctor most likely prayed for Kennedy before he started surgery.
