I am 100% certain Nancy Lanza considered herself a RESPONSIBLE gun owner.

 I'll even state right out, I have yet to meet a gun owner who did NOT consider themselves responsible gun owners. They'll go on and on about how responsible they are with their guns.
 
It's pretty obvious that many "responsible gun owners" are not.

Jesus... Have you no decency, morals, or code of conduct?! (I know the answer, so why did I ask?) This woman was SHOT IN THE FACE by her deranged son. Did the gun do it? Hell no! Given the statistics of how often guns harm their owners and family members, there really is no such thing as 'responsible gun owner'.

Instead of taking guns away perhaps the country should go the route of Switzerland. Well, except those on the left that think guns are evil. They can just put a sign in their yard that says "Thanks, Uncle Sam, but not thanks. We would rather see our family murdered by a crazed gunman than protect ourselves. It's because we love our children!"

If they bothered to look at actual statistics, they'd find that gun ownership does in fact make people safer.  If someone is willing to steal his mother's guns and shoot her, he would be willing to steal from anyone else, also. DUH!  He even tried to buy a gun but current gun laws did stop him.  The one thing that can be accurately stated is that he was determined to find some way to commit that despicable act. The only prevention would have been in stopping him, not in removing one type of tool.
