A Quick Story...

When the economy crashed this last time (2008), an Africa American Woman who I work closely with, and consider a good friend...

Looked at me all concerned, and asked, "Bill... are your people gonna be alright ???"

And I laughed hysterically, and gave her a one finger salute... and we both started giggling.

Point being...

She and her extended family have been dealing with this shit for YEARS.

They know where the thrift stores are, they know how to work the Underground Economy, they know which churches they can appeal to, who they can barter and trade with, etc....

And yet they survive. And in some cases flourish.

She gave me a wink as she walked away, and said... "Well... we all N*****s Now !!!"

And again we both laughed.

I had know idea at the time, how correct she was.

Try patching close for school so they might make it another two months to summer time.  Try not having anything that didn't come from the garden in the yard or that wasn't caught or killed out in the local woods for about six months.

My kids grew up in thrift store clothes. I still shop there first unless I'm buying presents. Use it up, wear it out, make it do ... not a race based quote.
