poll: in case of tie.....
« on: December 11, 2012, 06:52:51 PM »
I haven't been tallying the votes for the Top DUmmies of 2012 and the three special awards since Sunday morning, but I'm guessing there's going to be some ties, maybe as many as two or three.

It's happened before, but rarely.

The problem with a tie is that it demands the writing of two awards instead of just one, and unfortunately during the last half of December every year, franksolich gets burned out from literarizing.

It's hard work, trying to make silk purses out of sows' ears.

I'll do whatever the people wish me to do, but think about it--in case of a tie, should I

(a) toss a coin to determine the winner?
(b) have Chris_ toss a coin to determine the winner (assuming Mr. Wiggum's too busy)?
(c) write awards for both despite the writer's burnout?

I think you just write one award for both.

Don't give it to both. We need to establish a policy. This could happen again.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Have someone else flip a coin.  Don't give the award to both.  That's like a participation trophy.

It happens all the time in top ten lists where there will be a tie at number 4 so both are given number 4 and then I think they skip 5 and go to 6.

Since we're talking about DUmmies, skip number 4 and give them both number 5.

I was going to say have a run-off, but that was not an option. THen I was going to say give it to both, but that would put more work on you.

If the tie is with the special awards why not give it to whoever ranks highest in the main contest?

This needs to be done scientifically.

If there is a tie, assign one as ODD and the other as EVEN. Then go to the US Debt Clock http://www.usdebtclock.org/

Go to the "eighth" place from the left of US National Debt and whatever number that is (odd or even), that is the winner.

In the event there is a three way tie, use "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" first.   :-)

The highest finisher in the DOTY polling should get the nod for the special awards.

The DOTY award should allow ties to stand but at the lowest position of the tie, a tie behind third place would result in two fifth place awards.  In the event of a tie at the top, we would have co-champions, but still no more than 10 DUmmies in the top ten.

Flip the coin.

If there's a tie for the big awards, DOTY position should be the tie-breaker. That's a great option!

That could indeed be interesting, and even more interesting would be t osee what The Big 3 would do about it, if anything. However, I'm against DUmmie policy that "everybody wins." I also don't want to make any more work for Frank since he always does so much with this every year. If it's the will of the people, it's fine with me, but I say let Frank flip a coin. I trust him to flip a damn coin. I just hope the result is the one I want it to be.  :-)

I've finished counting the votes.

There were no ties for any of the three special awards.

There were four ties for the top 10 DUmmies, one of them a four-way tie.

And there's some unexpecteds; between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve there's going to be a lot of surprises.

I'll worry about it next week.

It was a bitch, tallying up the votes.

I suspect the primitives are going to be surprised too.

But they'll have to wait, like everybody else.

For the meantime, lurking primitives may kiss franksolich's Republican ass.
