(Rant) My boss called today.... wants me to train 7 new workers for my bus route.


 
No problem.. (I'm a team player) except I have been cut to two days a week.

So he wants me to train 7 new workers at $7 an hour... when I am only working two days a week for $10 an hour?

Yup.. that's what he wants. When I started the job, I used my own personal car and my own gas and my own time ...and I went out and learned the bus routes on my own.. no one "trained" me?

Last June I trained 5 new workers.. and they are all working more hours than me. So I am going to say "No" this time around. Yes.. I was screwed over before.. so I should do this again to save the company $3 an hour?

The new workers are all Haitain Immigrants and Mexican. Nothing against the Haitain folks and the Mexican workers.. (I assume they have their green cards).. but I need 40 hours a week... I have a family too.

I'm in a right to work state..(Florida) OF COURSE, no union allowed.

Yet another DUmmy who is employee of the month in their own mind. 

If they are using you 2 days a week I would guess that the problem is you not them. Every time I ever got hired on for a part time gig I ended up being full time within a month. Maybe that is because I do my job and don't go on political rants to the customers and spend half my work day posting on DU.

It feels better (for a little while) when you talk about it.

These companies are doing this because THEY CAN. They know they have backing in Washington D.C.

I wish we had ten more Elizabeth Warrens and Alan Graysons.

I just had an idea.. I might call or write Alan Grayson in January. My company does business in his district.. maybe he will have something to say about this?

Be sure to tell Grayson that you post at DU, that way he can ignore the same way he ignores all of you after his staffer posts a thread begging for money on DU.

Echoing what Perky, Freeper, and many others have said in other threads and this one, every move upward I got in my two career jobs was entirely because I went out of my way to leave the beaten path and take on the hard stuff head-on when the big cheeses needed someone to do it.  Every failure, which thank God was mostly in the first two years of my undergrad days, was because I was happy with doing enough to get by, and it taught me a painful but valuable lesson.

Dude the min wage could be $100/ hr and people would complain. Of course if it was that high a loaf of bread would probably cost around $50.

The thing about min wage is, it is a starting point. You are supposed to take it upon yourself to get skills and experience in order to make more than the min wage. People have this expectation of getting paid top dollar right off the bat, they don't want to work their way up to getting a decent wage anymore because they are being taught how they are owed everything just for being alive.

It's as high as $15 in some countries but everything else you buy is just as expensive.  Health care is free but you're paying $100 for a ham that costs a quarter of that in the US.  Don't even ask about steak.

As I told Frank once in private,my father (born 1905),told me long ago how Wilson won reelection on the motto "He kept us out of war".

Uh, no, dipshit.  RTW simply means compulsory union membership is not allowed.  One can still be employed by a company which hires union workers and chooses not to pay the union dues.  They simply aren't afforded the same protections given to members of the union.

Even here in a "closed shop" state, I'm not REQUIRED to be a member of a union, I simply have to give an amount equivalent to what my dues ordinarily would be to the bargaining unit.
