Union gets drunks reinstated
« on: December 09, 2012, 05:20:22 AM »
Quote

Chrysler workers who were fired or suspended two years ago after a MyFoxDetroit investigation found them drinking and goofing off during lunch break are back on the job.

MyFoxDetroit first aired the footage of the Chrysler workers in September 2010. Video showed them in a park during the work day, drinking alcohol from bottles covered in brown paper bags and smoking what appeared to be marijuana.

With the auto giant having recently received a federal taxpayer bailout, and President Obama having visited the plant where the employees worked just months earlier, Chrysler appeared to take a zero-tolerance attitude. The company fired 13 workers, and suspended two.

But MyFoxDetroit reports that following a union-backed arbitration process, the employees were reinstated. This week, they came back to work.

This is why it'll be a cold day in hell before I work in ANY kind of a union-controlled situation.

Staggering in its stupidity.

Oh, and Chrysler? I don't often deliberately choose to buy a product built by drunkards and dope-smokers, but when I do, it's your stuff.  :whatever:
Adams E2 Euphonium, built in 2017
Boosey & Co. Imperial Euphonium, built in 1941
Edwards B454 bass trombone, built 2012
Bach Stradivarius 42OG tenor trombone, built 1992
Kanstul 33-T BBb tuba, built 2011
Fender Precision Bass Guitar, built ?
Mouthpiece data provided on request.

I can't really blame Chrysler on this one--it's all on the UAW and the bullshit they pull.

Trust me, if I pulled this crap, I'd be gone, and gone for good at ANY plant in the country, not to mention that would be hung around any resume I ever submitted...

I'm pretty sure I posted here the problems that would surface with this when it initially happened.  Chrysler chose the PR public statement route and by doing so gave a valid grievance route for them to challenge it.  Independent arbitrators even determined that Chrysler didn't follow their own procedures.  Two years without pay was a stiff lesson, they're also lucky to be back, my guess is they're be taking their work far more seriously now.  Additionally this apparently has led Chrysler to start what appears to be an excellent program about not having any alcohol in ones system or at lunch.  They even had private investigators at local bars and liquor stores at lunch time watching.
