There already is a "black box" in a lot of cars, they call it Onstar.

It's easy to uninstall.  They would have to think of a better way to track people per mile to tax them.

Make it illegal to not have it installed. Or just use your cell phone to track you  :-)

My guess is, GPS will soon be a chip in the car's computer that can not be removed by the driver. That way they can track how much you drive then tax you by the mile. They can also track all your movements and if you become "an enemy of the state" they can shut off your engine lock you in and wait until the police come arrest you. For today this is tinfoil country, but maybe not so far fetched in the future.

They can install these devices on newer cars without a problem.  Stick to older cars and the worst they can make you do is go into the DMV to have one installed.  I know the government would love to tax us per mile and I know they have a dumbass committee trying to figure out ways to do it.  It's years off.  I'll keep my old ass car without all that technology in it.

No, not really.  There are plenty of older cars out there.  I see them for sale every day.  My car will be 13 years old soon, but it runs like new.

Since the average car on the road today is 11 years old according to NBC tonight finding an old car isn't a problem. What I see is another excuse to add more junk on a car that will break down and add more to the price tag. It will probably also give some Union hack a reason to jack with the computer when they decided to ask for another raise and the company won't do it.

my GMC truck is 10 years old and rather than saddle myself with a car loan I put a GM factory rebuilt motor and transmission in 2 years and its at 240k miles and running strong.  I'm hoping to get another 7 to 10 more years out of it.
