Steak-n-Shake has the best milkshakes.

Wish they'd get better french fries, though.

So...I just got home, had to lay in some supplies.

Stopped off McD and picked up a #1 with a med drink. (poorly constructed Big Mac, large order of stale fries)

$5.79

Newsflash--it's already there.  BK or McD's "meal deals" going for $7-8 now?  (More in NYC, BTW.)  Sit down places like Red Robin are charging similar prices, so what's the point of going through when you get a better burger at the same price?

True that. Prices have gone way up, especially for the so-called "premium burgers". Consider Hardee's "Six-Dollar Burger". Six bucks just for the burger? Maybe if it looked like it does in the photos. Instead, you get about half the ingredients, a dried out beef patty, and the whole thing looks like someone sat on it before it was boxed.

Same with places like Five Guys and In-N-Out.

I don't like Five Guys at all.

Fries at McDonald's are far better, in my opinion.

The burger at Five Guys was okay, but so gigantic I could not begin to eat it like a sandwich.

Taking up the challenge anyway, I ended up with pieces of hamburger scattered all over, and used a fork to eat them.

So, it was a very unsatisfactory lunch and at least double the price of McDonald's or Wendy's.

Really?  I used to work at a restaurant (one of those Applebee's-type places) that served those shoestring fries.  The owner switched over to something more like Wendy's fries and the sandwich and burger sales exploded.  They were great.

No one has mentioned the fast food tragedy of our age.

Wendy's, from the day it sprang up from Dave Thomas's ambition, had by far the best french fries of any restaurant.

A couple of years ago, adrift after Dave's death, the Wendy's braintrust decided to change their fries to something more like french fried potato peels.

They went from near perfection to the worst french fries available in the Western Hemisphere.

Their hamburgers are still great, but are ruined by their companion fries. Worse even than waffle fries.

Yeah, well I like shoe string onion rings, too, so maybe there's the catch.

The only thing that I order from McD's is their coffee. Best coffee, bar none, from a drive thru.

For a job that pays $8-$9 an hour to start and benefits as well such as getting health benefits that they got an exemption on from the Government I'd say that for entry level that is pretty damn good considering how 80% of entry level jobs don't have the same deal.

Went from full potato to fries, right on the premises.

Worst coffee on earth. Hotter than molten lava.

If you get it from a drive thru, you have to drive another 75 miles before it's cooled down enough to drink.

Personally I just wish they would pay half as much attention to their job as they do to their smart phone.

Of course a prog would be happy to explain to you that they don't make enough money to pay attention to their work.

McDonald's iced coffee is better. You get a lot for your money. Way better than Starbucks.

These types of jobs ceased to be teenager jobs some time ago.

Actually they are still teenager jobs, it's just some adults are choosing to work them.  But that doesn't make the job any more difficult.  You work a teenager job and you get a teenager pay.  Asking a business to up the pay grade because the one working the entry level job is 57 and has a doctrate in International Fine Arts and Lauguage Studies is asinine, which no doubt is why it seemed to you to be brilliant.

13. You obviously have never been unemployed.

Think about someone like me. I was laid off from my job of 20 years when I was 61. Thankfully, between my severance, unemployment insurance, and some savings, we were able to make it to my 62nd birthday and get onto Social Security. Had it happened a year earlier, we would have been screwed, because the unemployment would have run out before SS kicked in. I would have gladly taken a job as a burger-flipper or a greeter at Wal-Mart. But that was at the height of the recession and there were NO jobs available.

So, yeah, I would have had bigger problems. So, what, exactly, was your point?

20 years and you didn't save.  Your former employer, society, and life didn't screw you, you did it to yourself.  No wonder this DUmbass is happy to flip burgers, no drive, ambition, or ability to improve their job skill.

I'm looking at the same thing.  Hell, I've got more than enough in my 401(k) (at least until Obumbles steals it) alone that I can survive for a couple of years.

And there ain't no way in hell I'm out of work anywhere near that long before I retire.  IF I retire.

The first McDonald's I ever saw was in the early or mid-sixties. No tables, and the big arches were on each side of the building.

Workers were all high schoolers, seventy-five cents an hour, and they RAN, non-stop. It was continuous bedlam behind the counters.

That's why the term "fast food" was coined.

The pace of work at a McDonald's today, with penniless middle-aged DUmpmonkeys on the job, is glacial by comparison.

I was making double cheese-burgers before they were even offered as a menu item.

I know the secret too, I was working there for $3.35/hr when we switched over to the new oil they use.
Double cheeseburgers were not on the daily menu, but were sold a couple times a year, and the double quarter pounder was not sold at all, even though we made them for ourselves.  :-)

The secret for the fires was Beef Tallow

3.35? I started working for McDonald's when they "proudly paid above minimum wage" one dollar and ninety cents an hour. Five cents above minimum :rotf: They got unproud when minimum went over that :whatever:

About 5 years later I went back in another part of the country. I was lured into working there after they found out where I'd worked before and wrangled myself a .20 cent above to start with an additional .35 raise after 30 days. I helped them through their crisis and turned down another .25 to stay. I was young and didn't want to have to do breakfast.
