Sounds familiar, only I started at $2.
Wasn't a lot, just kept me going.
Work hard, earn your pay, and move up.
I'm grateful to that first employer for giving me my chance.
It was a start for better things in the future.
Same her Skul. I worked many a Thanksgiving, at straight time too, cause I couldn't afford to take the hit on my paycheck. You do what you gotta do. Now? Well make min wage, have kids and the government will make up the difference.
Here are the kids now:
Every year during the summer, we hire a bunch of interns... kids in college... and not a damn one of them are worth a shit. Summer before last I was out of the office for all of June working on a project. So Perky comes into the office in July for a meeting with the client and here are these kids, with their feet on the desk, keyboard on their lap, and I went postal. The first one I chewed out, I asked him if was comfy and he said yes, he was, and thanked me for asking.
I went off.
Then the bastard had the nerve to ask me who I was. I told him I WAS THE DAMNED MANAGER AND TO GET OUT!!! Fired him on the spot. Then I walked up the hall and several more were texting. Well that didn't sit well with me either. Went into my bosses office. She told me that was just the way it was now.
Well screw that.
Hell even when they got the gumption to get an education they expect more than I ever did. You got to pay your dues in any organization.
Isn't any wonder obumbles got reelected. The kids are gonna get a rude awakening when the money runs out.
We are a dying breed, Skul.

That's what happens when you toss money to the non-acheivers and subsidize them. They out breed us and the sheer numbers ain't in our favor.
