So I called a new doctor for an appointment today and within the first few words

was "Who is your insurance company?" Not what is your name, how can I help you, what symptoms, which doctor in the group, but "Who is your insurance company?"

It really torqued me the wrong way! Usually they get at least 10 words out ... but no ... "Who is your insurance company?" ... like I had to pass a clearance test during the first 10 seconds of the conversation.

Yet if they had spent ten minutes asking you all the other important information then got to the part about your insurance only to find out they don't use that insurance you would howl about wasting ten minutes.

Yeah they are greedy because they want to get paid for their services, so they can pay their bills and maybe make a couple of bucks to live on themselves, but you aren't greedy for wanting them to see you for free.  :whatever:

Tell you what DUmmy go to medical school, open up a practice then see people for free. Then you can bitch about how greedy the other doctors are.

3. It does seem impersonal, but there's a reason for it...

Your insurance company might not approve of them (for whatever reason), so by getting that info 1st, they won't waste your time with asking you questions. Believe me, if they asked you the normal barrage of questions and then found out that your insurance company doesn't approve of them, they've wasted your time.

Well?

It's not fair they won't give me free stuff.  :mental:

curt questions and impersonal attitudes ... and it grows and grows.

And in the US it all evolves around $$$$$. To me, it's a disgusting and tiresome way to have a society, and at least to me it's going to just get worse and worse.

Another example, we used to have a small, but very progressive and advanced ISP here, now, they've been bought out by a large company. Now, it's like talking to a brick wall when you contact them for service, questions, etc. And the latest is forcing on-line billing and payment onto subscribers.

A new talk-radio station started here on FM. I flipped it on this morning for a bit, I thought it might be interesting. I listed to it for about 10 minutes, all they did was trash Obama and anything to do with the administration. It was pure garbage. Just lies and garbage. And later I learned it was a Fox AM station now broadcasting on FM too.

I think I'll just go back to bed and screw it all.

Like liberalism doesn't evolve around money, the difference is liberals don't want to do anything to get your money, businesses including those evil doctors provide something in exchange for money.

The DUmmies all want living wages if they bother to work, yet they expect everyone else to give them rock bottom prices or everything they feel entitled to for free. They never can figure out that everything costs money and that it is them not the rich who are not paying their fair share.
Bunch of hypocrites.

As opposed to say, France, where everyday each citizen gets out of bed wondering out loud how they can improve life for others.

They probably wanted to make sure the DUmmie wasn't on Medicaid because it's another doctor that isn't taking new Medicaid patients.

Wait until you get what you wish for DUmbass...the first question asked will be "How old are you?"
to see if you fall within the treatment perimeters.

That's because more and more Doctors are dropping insurance companies, increasingly we have Doctors dropping Cigna, Aetna and Oxford unless the company provides out of network benefits, and they need to let Patients know this right away as opposed to going through the motions then saying ooooops, we don't take your insurance anymore.

Better be careful they might rip out your tonsils and cut off a foot so the doctor can vacation in Hawaii this year.
Or they may give you a breathalyzer if you are breathing hard.

Luckily DR 0bama can step in and give you a pain pill instead of a pacemaker. Good times are in store for us no doubt!

When you have a free market you have a potentially inexhaustable revenue source. Consumers will pay as much as they are willing and if they are willing to pay more than the current supply system can accommodate then more suppliers will enter the market place.

Now we have ObamaCoup.

If you think it is impersonal now wait until it's no longer an issue of gaining market share but decreasing number of providers scrambling for a finite amounts of federal funding from a government that overtaxes a shrinking economy while devaluing the currency at every turn.

DUmbass, you're seeing just the beginning.

alright DUmmy, lets assume for 2 seconds that you are ambitious enough to have your own business and a potential customer inquires about doing a transaction with you for your goods or services.  Would you want to make sure the potential customer has the means to pay you for your product before investing your time and resources in the venture or would you blindly complete the transaction and then bitch and moan after the fact when you don't get paid for your efforts?  Do you think a realtor will waste their time showing property to a lookie-loo who can not qualify for a mortgage?

Don't get all butt-hurt when a business is looking out for their financial well being.  They aren't in it for charity and last time I checked, med school was north of 1/2 million $$ not to mention the years of hard work invested in it.

Bet they would have been even more upset if they had made an appointment and not found out until afterwards that their insurance wasn't accepted and they had a bill for a couple hundred dollars.

8. This is just as offensive as

the first question I get when calling my Dr. for an appointment. "What's your birthdate?" Not what's your name -- just birthdate. I answer in my most freezing tone of voice, "I have a NAME and I would appreciate that you use it." I know I'm an old lady, but really, this lack of civility is beyond the bounds.

HeiressofBickworth can give herself a highfalutin name but she is just another lumpenprole and neither her demands to be recognized as somebody nor her most freezing tone intimidate anyone.

That's so they can find you in their computer system.  Then they will know your name and find out if the secretary of HHS has declined your insurance company for not being in compliance with their new 10,000 pages of regulations.

Correct.  Amazing how even my current doctor wouldn't take me now as a new patient with my current insurance.

Then again I should consider myself lucky, considering I'll be lucky to have health insurance as a company-provided benefit come 2014.  I can thank Obamacare for that one too.

I guess seeing that the mutants at DU think healthcare is a right, there should be no reason for a provider to make sure they are paid for their service.

In the health care practice that I work in, it may not be the first question that we ask, but it is in the top 5.  We try to be a profitable business, so that means someone is going to pay for the service that we provide.  If your insurance does not, we will offer you a competitive cash price.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

DUmmie calls doctor's office.....

Ring.....ring.......ring......."Hello and thank you for calling. This is the office of Dr. So-&-so. If you have a "Cadillac" plan of health insurance, press one. If you have a good health insurance plan, press 2. If you have Obamacare, press 3........you have pressed 3 for Obamacare.  The following is a list of local funeral homes. At the mention of the funeral home that you would like to have handle your remains, press "pound" and your call will be automatically forwarded to the funeral home of your choice. Thank you for calling the office of Dr. So-&-so and wasting our time." ....click.
