Members of DU, this is for you. If you care to learn something...some history, watch the video. If not, don't. However, if you watch it, and bring it up at the island, I assume, and suspect you're just going to call this guy a "HN" anyway. Cause you're losers.
H^5 for that find. Only problem with this mans rant is he misses one major point. The number of slaves that wanted freedom and road the underground railroad were far less then those slaves purposely kept at a 5 year old intellect.
Slaves were valuable, they were fed, housed, had medical care made no decisions on their own, some of the lucky ones were taught a trade, most however were field hands ,grown people in body but were no more capable of caring for themselves then any 5 year old set loose with no where to go.
Some went West only to be captured by the Indians and become their slaves married into the tribes and thrived.
Those that escaped the Indians became our western cowboys, twice as many of them then the white man that headed west at one time. The Tender Foots.
How the Hell the 1,000,000 in the north mid western states survived is a human testament to fortitude and Epic tale of survival. They had to make it on their own somehow and they now had schools for the next generation to become educated. To survive they worked together for the common good.
They were slowly climbing the ladder of society, doing quite well at it it, a few set backs, in the South with the Democratic party pushing for separate but equal, and the real douche bags that came in and roused up the population to suddenly decide that their right to sit at a counter in a restaurant was more important then their lives. The Democratic could not stop all the people to continue going up the ladder so they had to find a way to put them down.
Along comes LBJ with a better idea, find a way to make the next generation dependent on others, take away the spark of need to fend for themselves, take away their pride and sense of achievement,
