Just a quick thought about unions
« on: November 20, 2012, 06:09:13 AM »
Whenever a union goes on strike the corporation ceases, by definition, to produce.

That means no excise taxes are generated. No capital gains taxes are generated. No payments to FICA. No pension funds. No sales taxes. No income taxes. No payments into ObamaCare.

It's not about what's good for society as a whole; it's the union saying "I got mine, **** everybody else."

According to liberals, this is economic terrorism and treason.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Their convoluted reasoning would file this one under "For the overall good of society", which would be those Societal issues that they support.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

They probably ate too many Twinkies off the production line, and went crazy. Be that as it may, I understand that Hostess might be bailed out by a *gasp* venture capitalist! Oh, the irony!!!!!!!!

Actually, they already had been bailed out by venture capitalists 8 years ago after their first bankruptcy.  Thanks to the very people the union scum are blaming for the problem, they had an additional 8 years of steady employment.

Not all of em. Not too many DUmmies can keep a steady job for 8 years running.

Interestingly enough, I stopped by the local Hostess Outlet just to see what was left. Not much, and the fat-ass welfare types were in there cleaning out the shelves. No, there were no Twinkies. While I was there I talked to the cashiers who almost know me by name. Yes, I've been shopping there for quite a long time. I asked them if they were in the Bakers Union. They said yes. I asked about the "hang up" over the contract. The reply was (usual Union blame game) "Management has been taking money out (from what, I don't know) for years. It has nothing to do with the pension you hear about in the news."
These people never change. It's always "Management ****ed us! Not the strike!"    :whatever:
As I left two cops jumped out of the bushes and searched me for Ho Ho's, Ding Dongs, and Fruit Pies. Not finding any, they let me go.

SSB, Great points!

I would also challenge anybody, or any DUche to name one single thing that any union has ever done to help a company stay in business, to help it expand, or become more efficient in a world marketplace.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

You could have asked them how their "union resolve" was going to taste this winter when they didn't have paychecks but, alas, you did the best thing that could have been done in that situation.  No sense wasting your breath upon ears that are too stupid to hear; they're going to learn the hard way soon enough.

The only problem is, they never learn.  This area up here used to be chock full of good papermill jobs.  Wages at $18-30 per hour.  Universities with world-class paper science and engineering programs.  There's hardly any left anymore.  The ex-union people continue to bitch that management ****ed everyone over, even 25 years after the death of a papermill.  I was salaried, so they attack me, after all these years.  I have to attend a party with these people on Dec. 1.  Maybe I'll come back with a bouncy.

That is the thing leftists do not understand. Kill an industry and kill everything around it. I bet there were companies supplying the equipment to the paper mills in the area and paper mills the world over. That machinery companies also folded and that business also went overseas. Same thing happened in kalifornia with the printed circuit board industry. The suppliers all dies too. There are still lots of companies making PCBs in other countries and the suppliers to that consumer industry are now in those countries too. Even if the paper mills were to come back the support industries will never come back. The paper mills in the area will buy their equipment from overseas. Those equipment manufacturers are where really good paying jobs are because they are niche and innovation companies with (GASP) high profit margins.

Hopefully they are private venture capitalist and keep it that way. Tell the Ding Dong unions they got a snoballs chance in hell of joining them.

There's nothing that says that the new management has to use the same facilities or staff.

Build a new plant in a right to work state.

While that may sound good it's not a feasible tactic.  Would create shipping & distribution problems raising prices because contrary to popular belief Twinkies don't last forever. They have a shelf life of approximately two weeks.

U.S. Steel Fairless Hills PA>

Quote
Peak employment was more than 8,000 in 1974.     On August 8, 1991, the company closed the hot side of the plant and the pipe mill.

This left about 1,000 employed.

Quote
Since the import crisis of 1998, employment levels have fallen sharply and various plant facilities have operated on an irregular basis.

In 2001 the plant closed.

During it's hey-day, a friend said the wages were great and his job received 6 months vacation every three years because of the conditions he had to work under. A large part of Lower Bucks County PA was occupied with steel workers who had two to three cars, a boat and vacations homes in the Poconos and/or New Jersey shore.

Yeah, unions are great till they kill the company that provided them work.

I used to think; "why would unions risk destroying their jobs"........silly me, because they don't really want to work.......they can collect unemployment and/or welfare.

And these idiots wonder why companies are closing their doors and moving to other countries or right-to-work states?  Or the union workers blame management?  Give me a break.
