4 new trials granted in Christian-Newsom murders

In a hearing Thursday, Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood granted motions for new trials for the four people originally convicted in the Christian-Newsom murders.

Former Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner presided over the trials of Letalvis Cobbins, LeMaricus Davidson who is Cobbins' half-brother, Cobbins' friend George Thomas and Cobbins' then girlfriend Vanessa Coleman.

After their original trials, Davidson was sent to death row. Cobbins and Thomas received life sentences and Coleman was given a 53-year-sentence.

Baumgartner, who became a drug addict, doctor shopped for narcotics and bought extensively from convicts in his drug court, pleaded guilty to official misconduct in March and was later disbarred, leading to the motions for new trials in this case.

Frankly, it's not going to change the end outcome.  No judge or prosecutor who has a shred of decency will ever let these scum slither away.

I think you might be standing too close to the fuel rods.

We had that problem with one of our judges a few years ago.  She was married to a disbared estate lawyer who was stealing money from elderly clients---The Judge herself was called the Sleeping Judge.   Her head down and snoring so loud she could be heard in the back row.   Complaint after complaint came in about her conduct by both victims and the accused.  Big write up in most of the state news papers but no one would do anything.

As far as I know she may still be on the bench and or husband may be practicing out of state again.

Not to mention but I cannot resist the out of state Judge that used a penis pump under his desk, for years.   He became so bold he began to leave it in his chair when he went on lunch breaks.

This entire situation is beyond disgusting.

Only one of the creeps was sentenced to death. His girlfriend is being retried right now. Trial has been going on all week.

Their convictions were all overturned, but none of the acquittals have been. Not one of them can be sentenced harsher than what their previous sentences were...which really makes no sense.

Channon and Chris's parents have been in the courtroom every single day of each hearing, motion, and trial since the very beginning. They have had to sit there and look and pictures of what was done to those kids, hear testimony of what was done to them, and look at the animals who killed them. No parent should have to see that sort of thing. Chris was killed the first day, when he was put into an oil drum and burned up, after being sodomized among other tortures. Channon was kept alive, beaten and raped for several days.

Runnin' Buddy's son was friends with Channon, and Chris played sports all through school with another friends' sons. From what I have heard from many people, they were both great kids who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Chris had just picked Channon up at her apartment to go on a date, when they were carjacked.

Those animals should never have made it back to Knoxville to jail....

Someone should have just killed them.
