Ok another thing, I have clothes older then 2 years too. Is that such a tragedy? We have seasons here and there is no reason I can't wear a sweater I wear last year the next since chances are it's gotten very little wear since I have a few of them. I'm not seeing the problem with 2 years. Hell, I still have a pair of mom jeans with belt loops big enough for those wide belts we wore in the 80's/90's...not that I ever wear them, just for nostalgia purposes :-)

I have a cute black skirt that I bought when I was in the navy.  I bought it at the exchange.  It still  fits and still looks brand new.  I wear it A LOT.  So it is about 13 years old.

I still have the skirt that I wore to my first job interview when I was 16, and I still wear it.  11 years old and still in pretty good condition.

Yep, I have a number of items I have had for years. Sometimes I do tire of them or notice I don't wear them all that much or they do wear out. So I get rid of those things that are worn and then see if there is anything my teen daughter wants(permanently since she's in my closet anyway :hammer:) before I donate. I"m not sure the disconnect on their part. Either she's embellishing or she's bemoaning her daughter can't buy new things. Sorry, but I can't cry over that. Clothes are clothes, shoes are shoes, coats are coats. If a child has one on his back and it happens to be gently used, it's not a tragedy. So we have snobs or bullshitters...both?  :-)

Everybody would LOVE to see that!

My very favorite tshirt says UMaine on it.  It's 25 years old.   :old:

A catfight did happen over there, but I didn't care to bring it.  There was screeching and hairpulling and iggy lists and everything.  Some of the girls may have gotten into it, too.

I still want to know how she knows what will be sold on Black Friday.

Because Black Friday ads are leaked WEEKS before Black Friday comes.  I have seen ads to hundreds of stores already.  I'm going to Kohl's because they have the best clothing deals.

My daughter has been wearing the same clothes for two years...

Some of them are falling apart. She also has used cookware from Salvation Army. It's the same for her furniture. My grandson is out of his jeans. He needs new ones. My other grandchild is out of his coat and his clothes are getting tight. My son needs new shoes.

Money is tight. We don't have a lot.

Black Friday we will have two paychecks and the sales on that day offer what my family needs.

So, yes...I am shopping on black Friday because we will have the money. This will be their Christmas.

There will be no high ticket items or electronics like iPads, computers or TV's. This will be a shopping day to fill my family's needs.

Look down on me still? Fine. I don't care, but keep in mind who you are condeming when you look down on the morons who venture out on black Friday to shop.

Oh, my grandchildren might get 1 toy a piece under the tree...just more crap they don't need...right?

Black Friday sales are being advertised already?

Yep a lot are. With websites getting the sales ads directly from the printers most retailers gave up and post them on their own websites these days. Some have unadvertised specials to lure in the customers.

BTW DUmmies, my whole house is 90-95% furnished and decorated from thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, craigslist and store clearances.  If we find something decent to wear we''ll get that too. There's not a damn thing wrong with living within your means and getting nice stuff in the process. The 3 of us do have jobs though so that might be why we can be choosy and wait to find quality.

My wife made me throw out a teeshirt I got on my birthday in 1983, about three years ago.  It was pretty ragged.

I'd invite Ban to show up here and explain the bankrupt goat**** that is California then.

Punish, with criminal sanctions, businesses who close down or reduce FT jobs

A lot of millionaires and billionaires who refuse to pay the reduced health care costs that Obamacare would provide are closing their businesses, most for spite. A lot of progressives and other workers are getting the shaft because of this greed for business owners who want to take their money and shove it into banks in the Cayman Islands. As more and more of these greedy bastards close their doors and run away from the problems that THEY caused through their republicanist greed, the entire unemployment situation will blow up in many cities.

Another problem is that many businesses, to get out of paying for Obamacare, will opt to only hire workers for less than 30 hours a week, which is the threshold for the trigger. This means they will be reducing the number of job hours for individuals, and take away their benefits that they've had for decades.

President Obama needs to create a Secretary of Business, whose FIRST order of business it to create a regulation to do two things on an IMMEDIATE basis:

1. Create a heavy fine or criminal violation for reducing the number of employees just to make sure they don't have to comply with Obamacare requirements. This fine should be severe enough so that committing a violation will have a detrimental effect on the business if the law is vioated.

2. Create a heavy fine for reducing the hours of existing employees. Create a mandatory ratio that businesses must adhere to, such as no more than one part-time employee for every full-time employee. This will reduce the amount of hour-slashing that will no doubt occur.

3. Make these fines retroactive to the beginning of 2011, which is the earliest that such a law can be constitutionally enforced.

In addition, states should consider fining companies who leave the state to reestablish in another state. Strict monitoring must be done for the business ownership so they don't skirt rules. This will be hard to enforce, but if the laws are in place, they will be put on notice so there will be a lot more compliance.

These steps will be necessary in the coming months, so they should be instituted as SOON as POSSIBLE, otherwise more workers will lose their jobs.

My "new" workboots are two years old.  My newest winter coat is six years old.  I haven't bought myself a Christmas present in about seven.  The kids this year are looking forward to a great Christmas.  This is the year they learn Santa doesn't exist.

I love Kohl's online for the huge clearance selections.  I don't think I have ever bought anything at regular price from their website.  Very rarely do I buy something at regular price in store too.  My daughter needs some new winter clothes.  We always get an abundance of summer clothes at the end of September from family.  We try to tell them it's not 100+ degrees all year round here, but nobody ever listens.

You can't micromanage the hiring policies of businesses. Many of them are on razor thin margins and they have to have the ability to make their own decisions on employment or they won't form businesses in the first place.

It is unfortunate that Obama went with this convoluted plan based on employment rather than single payer, not based on employment.

Well buddy you had your chance to repeal, but you guys voted for 0bama anyway.

Solution for that ridiculous idea is to fire everybody for cause, because I'm sure that nearly every employee has gone online during company time, used company e-mail for personal e-mail, or broken some minor rule, and have them reapply for the new 30 hour a week jobs.  Kind of cruel to those who don't get rehired, since I'm pretty sure that you don't get unemployment if you are fired for cause in most states, but it would be a work around for that suggestion.
