FEMA Out of Water, No Delivery Until Monday
« on: November 03, 2012, 02:07:28 PM »
Quote
FEMA's vaunted "lean forward" strategy that called for advanced staging of supplies for emergency distribution failed to live up to its billing in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

In fact, the agency appears to have been completely unprepared to distribute bottled water to Hurricane Sandy victims when the storm hit this Monday. In contrast to its stated policy, FEMA failed to have any meaningful supplies of bottled water -- or any other supplies, for that matter -- stored in nearby facilities as it had proclaimed it would on its website. This was the case despite several days advance warning of the impending storm.

FEMA only began to solicit bids for vendors to provide bottled water for distribution to Hurricane Sandy victims on Friday, sending out a solicitation request for 2.3 million gallons of bottled water at the FedBizOpps.gov website. Bidding closed at 4:30 pm eastern. ...

No water for a week?  I forgot....how long can you live without water?

But have no fear....I've heard that HS has stockpiled coffins.

And while FEMA takes bids for water to be delivered on Monday (who is actually betting the water will be delivered on time?) to the FEMA distribution areas with no plans on how to get it to the end user, Anheuser Busch delivers 100K cases of drinking water to it's distributors in NJ, with plans for thousands more cases.

Why do we NEED gov't in an emergency?

Hey FEMA last I checked you can buy water at Wal Mart, Sam's Club, Costco, and even the 7-11 where Joe Biden says you must have an Indian accent to enter.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Why do so many people rely on the government to take care of them?  I'd be terrified if something happened in Las Vegas and FEMA was coming out to help.  I'd run the other way.  What's the purpose of having FEMA when they can't even help though?  Get rid of them.  Useless.

How incompetent do you have to be to wait to get bids for water delivery until after a disaster occurs.  The government should already have these contracts in place, ready to supply water as soon as it is safe to do so.

This is why everybody should have at least a week's worth of clean water on hand at all times.

The federal government owns hundreds of empty buildings.  Why can't they just store it, MRIs etc.  Does bottled water go bad?

Bottled water can go bad, depending on storage conditions. On top of that MRE's (Meals, Ready to Eat or as us Soldiers call them Meals Rejected by Everyone) are expensive and bulky (1 case serves 4 people for 1 day, costs approx 70 bucks) and still have expiration dates. The daily food budget for an area like we're talking about would be in the millions. Further, you still have distribution problems of fuel and vehicles that can get through the devastation.

However, there is a solution sitting about 300 miles from NYC. Ft Drum, I'm sure, has probably warehouses full of MRE's, vehicle trailers that can hold from 400 gallons to 1000 gallons of water, fuel tankers capable of carrying several thousand gallons of diesel fuel each (not helpful to the civilian populace, granted, but all these vehicles run on diesel) and the distribution equipment and personnel capable of delivering it in under 18 hours from the word go. I wonder if FEMA has asked that question yet?

I don't think Bloomberg wants anything to do with the millitary. A burrough President wanted Bloomberg to call in the Nat'l Guard.  But Mayor Idiot basically said no, that he only wanted the NYPD to have guns.

Good idea, Mayor Idiot. Dis the ONE institution in the US that most Americans look to as being selfless and honest, literally, the most respected profession in the country, as being untrustworthy. Why did anyone ever think he was a republican?

When we got hit by a huge ice/snow storm in early December several years ago, they had National Guard troops going door to door in areas where power lines and trees were were blocking the streets. That was the next afternoon after the storm hit.

I was living in Omaha when we were hit by horrific tornadoes in May, 1975 about 3:30 in the afternoon. By the time I was able to get to my street that evening, to head up toward my apartment complex, there was a barricade manned by Nat'l Guard. I had to show my drivier's license and checkbook in order to get through. They also gave me a sheet of paper to put on my dashboard. This went on for 10 days. Also every night, about every 30 minutes or so, they drove a jeep through the parking lots of the apartments, shining spots into the windows.

But we must all remember, for the sake of our lurkers, that Romney's shipments of bottled water were not needed, money was the best thing to send.   ::)

Yeah that and the canned food, what was that dope thinking?  :-)
Besides Romney and Ryan both had been posting on facebook before the storm even hit urging folks to donate money to the Red Cross. The left as usual is manufacturing something to be outraged over.

Doomberg is a major idiot. How that moron managed to get elected as mayor is beyond me. Oh that's right NYC is the northeast's hub of liberalism.
