Republican Territory - South Dakota
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:01:22 AM »
I have a new political blog that focuses on issues that effect South Dakota through a conservative perspective. The blog is in its infancy. I've put up 4 posts that vary on issues thus far. I have 6 more that are being written. Also, I have a 2nd writer gearing up that will have an article on the educational system and vaccines for children by tomorrow. I hope to expand the blog and make it worth while for conservatives. It's philosophy heavy since I want it to be different from the typical news forum for conservative discussion. Any ideas, problems, or comments about the blog or blogs direction is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

P.S. I actually was looking for a website I used to be on and enjoyed as a kid called Free Conservatives. Sorry its gone. I'm pleasantly surprised to find "The Conservative Cave" as something that at least reminds me of the

Ah, another member from the Great Plains!

Welcome, sir, and you might want to check out other parts of conservativecave, as there's lots of interesting stuff here that might prove inspiration for your blog.  We help each other, giving ideas back-and-forth.

Life is short, and suddenly you're not there any more.

My little site has been inactive a long time, but I'm trying to dig in a little. I have two new short articles up concerning South Dakota with a third tomorrow night. The third will be concerning an Inspector General. These articles won't be interesting to anyone outside the state I'm guessing. The top two are the most recent and thank you for your consideration.

The website is still www.republicanterritory.com

Let me add that any criticism is appreciated!

I would add some pictures, or even a picture header.

I like your avatar.  Maybe using old time black and white or new pictures in a brown tone sepia finish would go along with your font title.

I would also add more divisions to your website.  Maybe one on education.  News about what is happening in the public/private schools systems.

What is your target audience?  What kind of traffic do you want? What bloggers/websites do you enjoy reading?

Maybe it's just my computer and my eyesight, but when I fit your whole web layout onto one page, the font is very small to read.  That's not a problem on my laptop, I can enlarge or shrink it very easily, but it would be a real pain on my other computer monitor.

Great comments!! I have an old black and white silhouette picture of a man next to a stake in the ground that should be flattering as a header. I need to get it scanned and such over this week. I'll certainly add more divisions, I simply don't have any articles submitted concerning any other topic. My target audience are those interested in discussing political subjects concerning conservatism in South Dakota specifically. Political philosophy and argument. More pointedly, not a blog that simply counters news articles with opinions. An exploratory think tank is a flattering, but I'm modest in expectation. I'm hoping I can get others to start pseudonyms and start submitting articles since I could never keep up interest myself.

Good feedback on the font! I'll investigate that immediately. I'll figure out a way to get avatars in this, I'm actually surprised it's not already.

Here's a good one  :-)

A tid bit (don't know if this interests you) but I read that the predominate ancestry of So. Dakotan's are Germans by 40%.  How popular is Octoberfest there?   :cheersmate:

I noticed that there is only one area in SD that is dry.  Is that the Indian Res? What are the politics of the Native Americans?  How do they live?

Octoberfest is quite popular in some parts of the state. Spearfish for instance. The state desert is German. I work with people that can speak German. However, it just depends on where you're at. Some of these Germans are descended from German farmers that emigrated from Russia (previously invited in to improve agriculture etc.) to America. In world war 2 quite a few German POWs worked on some of their farms (irony). A lot of Scandinavians and Irish are around too. To your other question about how the Native Americans live and what their politics are could fill a book (and has). The reservations are sovereign dependent nations if memory serves. The reservation is like living in a socialist state. A lot of hard feelings abound from both sides of the debating hall, but I'm obviously one with a conservative point of view on how things could change for the better. Discussing the Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota in honest, or in at least unfiltered terms, would be difficult without becoming offensive to too many. A lot of people I know have learned hard lessons screwing around ( drinking, doing business, etc.) on the reservations. For a fun fact remember Richard Nixon is a hero to the Native Americans because he solidified the reservation system. Very unfortunate. Calvin Coolidge made them American citizens. Very cool. I'll close with that. Thank you again for your help. I found out how to expand the fonts a bit.

Howdy!

I've put up a number of new posts over the past few weeks. One of which is of a more national debate-

"Big Tent Blues" , which is about evolving the party platform to attract more voters.

"V for Victory", is about having a BOT program on the Sioux Falls interstate triangle.

"Man the Watchtower", is about the creation of a South Dakota Inspector General. I'd really appreciate a comment on that article, on republicanterritory.com, from someone who perhaps comes from a state where an Inspector General is needed or has seen a benefit from having one.

Thank you for your time!

Another article was put up on my webpage that caused quite a stir.

"And Now A Word From Our Sponsors"

The following is a link from another website discussing it.

The new article at Republican Territory is "Whose Child Is This?". It discusses the political philosophy parentage of the Republicans and Democrats. Gives proof of the difficulty of bipartisanship. Thank you for your time.

I have a new article up called "Necessity: The Tyrant's Plea." It's about the federal government using coercion against state governments. Thank you!

New article: Bored of Regents.

It discusses the South Dakota Board of Regents and a recent study that was completed on a potential future work force shortage.

Thank you for your interest!

I added a new article about increasing the Membership of the U.S. House. It's called The People's House. I hope you enjoy.

I would rather see the 17th Amendment repealed.  Just my two cents.

That's an interesting proposal. I don't have any background information in why it was changed. If you cared to write an article on it, I'd post it on my website.

Welcome. Always great to see Midwesterners. I might be living in Florida, but no one can take St Louis/the Midwest out of me. Good luck with your blog.
