5. Uh, yeah. Get those kids in out of that. That's just stupid.

There should be a standing down ceremony and a cup of hot chocolate. The living trump the dead every time imo.

40. I agree completely.

Do they do that nonsense in a lightning storm too?

Seems like a waste of the sacrifice the unknown soldier made for future generations to guard a tomb.

Guard the living, not tombs.

If they don't have duty helping people evacuate or something useful, at least they should just get themselves safe.

A question I asked myself while marching a post guarding....nothing.

74. I guess it comes down to who gets to decide what qualifies as showing respect.

Standing around in a driving rainstorm doesn't qualify in my books. It just looks silly. Why not decide that showing respect also involves erecting a weather-proof structure next to the tomb so the living soldiers have a place to get out of the weather? I'm sure the dead won't complain.

But then, we're a country that puts a lot of credence into taking a moment of silence to pray to non-existent gods, so I guess standing around in bad weather is par for the course. Most people like it, but ultimately, it's pretty meaningless.

They look like the GI Joe dolls I had as a child. Always wondered where they disappeared to.

To their credit, several DUmmies take the critics to task, although with DU you never know if that's how they really feel or if it's just an attempt at "damage control".

One of the many things that supposed mainstream democrats agree with the DUches, a visceral hate of the military. The closer the election gets the more I realize that the leaders and power brokers of the Obama democrat party would fit in far better at the DUmp than with decent and civilized people. While the DUmp may have been an artifact of the Clinton democrat party, the Duches would be welcomed (& are) in 0bama's democrat party. The DUchebags are now the base of the democrat party. Don't think there are any moderates left because there are none.

As I now know there is no such thing as a Blue Dog or conservative democrat, the party of eugenics, racism and slavery is nothing more than a slightly sanitized version of Hitler's creation. There is not a dimes worth of difference between the democrat party of today and the National Socialist Workers Party of the 1930s. Wrapped nicer but fundamentally the exact same ideology using the same methods to gain and keep power.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

They, generally, have zero conception of anything even remotely concerned with Duty, Honor or Country.  Sacrifice, is hyperventilating over an empty Cheeto bag and all the stores are closed and won't take an EBT card until the next day.

They lay this newborn in my hands
Who could have known he’d someday protect this great land

Memories cascade of when he was my baby
Today my son stands tall in the United States Navy

A parent plants seeds, morals, spirit and love
Their child takes flight on the wings of a dove

As he makes his own journey, both near and away
I look to the heavens, keep him safe Lord I pray

I’ll wave ‘Old Glory’ at home with pride and elation
And give thanks for those daily who serve our great nation

Defending our country, honoring their quest
Safe guarding our freedom, shielding us from unrest

Our sons and our daughters at their very best
Standing guard as Navy Sailors from the East to the West

Authored by Wendy Reiner 04.24.12 (proud mom of a United States Sailor)

Quote
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.

My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
my daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep
in perfect contentment, or so it would seem.
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eye when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
and I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
Alone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old
perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear
"Come in here this moment, it's freezing out there!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your arm,
you should be at home, this cold could do harm!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts,
to the window that danced with a warm fire's light
then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night"

"Its my duty to stand at the front of the line,
that separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam
and now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I 've not seen my own son in more than a while,
but my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
the red white and blue... the American flag.

"I can live through the cold and the being alone,
away from my family, my house and my home,
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat,

I can carry the weight of killing another
or lay down my life with my sisters and brothers
who stand at the front against any and all,
to insure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget
to fight for our rights back at home while we're gone.
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,
to know you remember we fought and we bled
is payment enough, and with that we will trust.
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Well, typical democrats / DUmmies.

They want and expect FREE; condoms, food, money, cell phones, everything and anything the government can give them.

So it's not at all hard to understand THEY want and expect FREE protection by a military they have no respect and no concern for in any way.

Freedom I suspect is a dirty word in their lexicon, after all they want nanny government to provide and tell them how to live, what to do, and who to hate.

I think that Clinton spoke for many demonrats, and summed up their feelings, when he wrote that he loathed the military - back when he was busily engaged in dodging drafts and going to Oxford.

The men that walk that walk, do it out of honor, DUmpmonkeys.
Nothing will hold them back from that duty.
They will do it as assuredly as the sun will rise in the morning.
This duty transends all physical hardships. Something, perhaps that is beyond your feeble comprehension.

A great many of those commenters, were also supportive.
