HELP! I have and addiction.
Every day I promise myself that I won't read or watch anything political. Every day I'm either here or watching msm. Even though it makes me nervous and upset, I keep coming back.

I hate learning/knowing how many ignorant people there are out there. You know the ones, right-wing, 'christian', radical assholes. I've been watching (what used to be called the 'moral majority' back in the day) this movement grow since I was old enough to recognizes that these people are really ridiculous. The shame of it all is that they'll never change and are breeding as I write this.

Seriously folks, any ideas on how I can STOP being so plugged in?

Turn off the TV.  Turn off the computer.  Go to your local nature park and take a long walk.  There, I just saved you thousands of dollar's in psychologist care.  I'll be needing five dollars now please.

The best I can do is tell you that during the conventions I started playing an online video game just to have something else to do which required my time.

It distracted me right up until the debates.

Good luck. Maybe get a hobby and get serious about it after the election. I think that for the next couple of weeks you are still going to be hooked. 

Yep, because online video gaming is so conducive to low stress and relaxation.  I mean you don't have Leroy Jenkins running around.  You are trying to figure out what your chances of surviving the run the Burning cave of the Thousand Dragons.  No stress at all, really.

5. I had the same problem I just want to go back to enjoying dumb tv and reading fiction books

I went on vacation to Hawaii and I couldn't stay away from it. After the President gets re-elected I am going to make a big effort to stay away from politics.

And DU is my favorite go to website that I am addicted to and it's driving my husband nuts because I'm always looking at my IPAD with the DU page.

What are the odds that this one is bitching on DU within the year about the husband leaving or having a girlfriend?

10. Here is what at times I do

Get yourself a nice cup of warm beverage of your choice. (Me coffee).

Find yourself a nice book. (my choice is a good sci fi yarn)

Turn on the music

Turn off the TV

After finishing the story I still need to write, I will probably do that this afternoon. I do need a break, and trust me, we have been covering one too many local debates.

Funny though, almost every town in this county has the best, I swear, cross my heart, Fire Department evah.... just ask them

(After this came up in the third candidate forum for the third city in three weeks, I had to laugh)

Hey, at least NO CHICKENS.

Back when we were going through the primary I was seriously feeling sick from all of the ups and downs so I started recording The Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, Bonanza and Little house on the Prairie on my DVR.

Yep, one of the best ways to avoid politics is to get a job that requires your active involvement for the full shift.  Another option is to go spend time with people and not bring up politics.  I just spent 2 weeks in California visiting family and friends, and we rarely discussed politics.  I watched the debates, discussed them a bit, and then moved on to other topics.  That and a bit of news discussion with my grandmother was the extent of my political involvement for those two weeks, and the few times I popped on here.

At least the moral majority has a foundation, unlike you libs.  Had a Republican done the things that Dear Leader has done over the past 4 years, you'd be outraged (IOW, your typical everyday selves).
