We'll get between 1.5" and 1.75" of rain.  A college roomate of my wife's lives on Cape May.  Hopefully, they're outta there by now.

That area looks like over 8 inches of rain.

I need to make a statement, possibly for later use if franksolich is accused of being heartless.

It looks as if the sparkling old dude's going to get deluged upon to, near Baltimore.

I hope he comes out okay.

It should be raining down there already, has he been online?

I haven't seen him, but his papier-mache trophy wife is probably carrying on, keeping him frantically busy trying to calm her down so that she'll still love him.

Thinking of Sparkey and his family.

^5 for the thought, vesta.  All is as good as can be expected here.  Scoobie's mom came home today, so there's no issue with watching the kids tomorrow and Tuesday.  Yeah, I'm working nights, but someone's gotta bring this plant up in the middle of a storm (ye Gawd what were we thinking?) and we can both get home easily enough if need be.

All I have to do tomorrow morning is fire up the generator to make sure there are no issues with it and make sure it's filled up with gas.  I've got 10 extra gallons of gas and I'm pretty sure it's still full but always check.

ETA:  Storm surge is expected to be around 3-4 feet here.  Couple that with the lunar tide (full moon, dontcha know) and there will be plenty of low-lying areas getting flooded.

But on the bright side, it ain't gonna be anywhere near as bad as Long Island Sound.  11 feet?  Oy.

Wait a minute - there are refineries in Jersey??  if they get hit dead on it may affect them??   So gas prices go up?!!!!11!!!1 RIGHT.BEFORE.ELECTION.

Karl Rove you magnificent bastard.

Most of the major east coast refineries are in NJ, which is the main reason gas is so cheap (comparatively speaking) there.

And on that note, DEFINITELY fill up the car(s) tomorrow morning on way home from work.  Oy.  That's all we need is $4.50/gal CA-type prices this week.

At 3am this morning while I was still at work...

one co-worker spoke with her sister in Cherokee NC...they were getting SLEET and HAIL.

another one spoke with her sister somewhere in PA....they had only had power for about 2hrs today (Sunday)

When I came home at 3:30 there was a bit of mist on the windshield, not enough to need wipers as defrost was taking care of it. It's cold - 44 right now and our high is only supposed to be 48 - and we have wind advisory starting at 11am until 8pm Tuesday night, ground is wet, trees still have lots of leaves which means trees could topple. Surrounding counties have winter storm watch & freeze warnings. We're supposed to be 34 tonight and 35 tomorrow night with rain.

All this is from Sandy after it comes ashore.....look at a map. We usually only get hurricane effects when they hit the Gulf Coast or come in low on the Carolinas....
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

Looks like the eye will pass just south of Philly, and it'll still be a hurricane when it gets here. If the eye passes over my house, I'm taking pictures, damn it!

I can tell you all that we are getting drenched over here in oh so what's meeting up with this thing is lots of cold wet air. Our radar shows pockets of freezing rain even in outlying areas. But no doubt what we having moving thru to meet it is cold and full of rain. I suspect where the collide and mingle More fully is going to have a dumping of snow and they are warning some wv areas of blizzard conditions so there you go. Be safe on the east coast. I'm working from home this week so I'm just grateful to be out of the rain and cold this week especially since my tires need replaced:p

Central OH. We are getting the front that's moving towards sandy. It's a wet cold mess. Long rain event too. We are expecting 50 mph gusts here from all this too. Reminds me of a spring storm minus the thunder

I for one are watching the birds, so far no crows or the little guys.     However in other areas we see the Sea Gulls moving in from the sea.  Most are moving out, but some make a quick fill up, Hubby called to tell me on break at work.  He tells me there are at least 3 dozen Gulls are all over the place, wanting to be fed.  One small Gull was actually walking up to the people wanting some bread or a piece of fish.    A big gust of wind made the flock fly off but Hubby says they were being flipped over like crazy, not so the little Gull that held his ground and chased people around for food.   This Gull was spoiled as at lunch time the workers would feed him/her.  Sounds like Hubby may have been a feeder as he told me had to go inside as the bird was about one foot from him and squawking.

Looking up at the trees ,they are moving about big time but the smaller trees and shrubs are totally still, the wind is still way up and has not reached ground level yet.  Long periods of total stillness then short periods of Rain and gusts of wind to rattle the windows  and doors so far.  Eastern time 8:45 am.

It sounds like the gates of Hell opening up. :-)

Worst I ever got caught in was a 50mph tropical storm.  It was scary enough.
