A series of internal State Department emails obtained by Fox News shows some some of the initial assessments of last month's deadly consulate attack in Libya, including one email within hours of the attack that noted that the group Ansar al Sharia had claimed responsibility.
 
Ansar al Sharia has been declared by the State Department to be a an Al Qaeda-affiliated group. A member of the group suspected of participating in the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi has been arrested and is being held in Tunisia.

This smells more like a leak from the CIA or DIA.  People who actually tried to sound the alarm and who've been thrown under the bus by both the WH and the State Dept.

There were a couple of former CIA guys and another guy who was either with State Department or some other secret squirrel stuff, on one of the Fox News shows I was watching in the middle of the night last week. ...I think it was a rerun of Greta's show.

The one former CIA guy is on RedEye a lot and if you watch the show, you would know who he is. Mike something.

Anyhow.... the former CIA guys both said the former SEALS were in Benghazi to RECOVER weapons from the uprisings. They were not there for anything to do with Stephens, they only got involved because they learned of the attack and went to help.

They also said there was some sort of alert...like a panic button - but I can't remember exactly what they called it - ...that is used whenever an embassy or consulate comes under attack, security breach, etc. This alert goes to all embassies and consulates, and directly into Langley. It was activated from Benghazi.

Someone on another thread asked me if the WH and State Dept. this was happening how could they let Americans get killed like that.

My answer was simple...they were an "Acceptable loss". I believe that is the term that would be used by the folks at the State Department and WH in a situation like this.

To their way of thinking it's better (for them) politically to lose four Americans and blame it on some mythical video than have to admit that an al-Qaeda based group...that we helped in the Libyan civil war...sodomized murdered and drug the body of our ambassador through the streets.

And deb you're right there was a panic button hit from inside the ops center at the Embassy...and when an alert goes out no less than 100 people know about it...just look at the header in that email.

But instead of doing the right thing...this Administration let a 7 hour gun battle...with a break in between...play out and get four Americans murdered.

When help could have come roaring onto the scene from Europe in about 3 hours.

Last night On Greta's show, they were saying that no US assets were activated or moved in any effort to try and help those under attack. It was suggested that a couple fighter jets could have been on scene within a couple of hours, and their mere presence might have possibly ended the assault.

 However,  that would have meant violating Libyan air space, and Obama would not want that.

I know one of the mothers of one man - is wanting answers. And I saw an interview of one of the SEALS sister, she too wants answers. So far...it appears that both women are not going to stop asking questions.

I'm not sure what charges could be brought.  However, this story tells me one thing for sure.  The people that thought Obama won the foreign policy debate only listened to the debate and didn't consider his foreign policy record.

It would take something along the lines of irrefutable proof that either Obama or Hillary was told of the attack and they gave the order that no rescue mission was to be mounted for charges to be brought against either one of them.

This is disgusting. It just smells so rotten...and I knew it! Right off the bat, on 9/11 something told me in my gut we were being spoon fed a bunch of crap.

This is treason. There is no other name for it. You cannot sugar coat this. A high ranking offical is sodomized, and dragged through the streets and the President says nothing?!

(CBS News) It was six weeks ago on Tuesday that terrorists attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Now, CBS News has obtained email alerts that were put out by the State Department as the attack unfolded. Four Americans were killed in the attack, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

These emails contain the earliest description so far of what happened at Benghazi the night of the attack.

At 4:05 p.m. Eastern time, on September 11, an alert from the State Department Operations Center was issued to a number government and intelligence agencies. Included were the White House Situation Room, the office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the FBI.

"US Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under Attack" -- "approximately 20 armed people fired shots; explosions have been heard as well. Ambassador Stevens, who is currently in Benghazi, and four COM (Chief of Mission/embassy) personnel are in the compound safe haven."

At 4:54 p.m., less than an hour later, another alert: "the firing... in Benghazi...has stopped...A response team is on site attempting to locate COM (embassy) personnel."

Then, at 6:07 p.m., State sent out another alert saying the embassy in Tripoli reported the Islamic military group "Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibilty for Benghazi Attack"... "on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli."

The emails are just a few in what are likely a large number traded throughout the night. They are likely to become part of the ongoing political debate over whether the administration attempted to mislead in saying the assault was an outgrowth of a protest, rather than a planned attack by terrorists.

Speaking of the Libya attack. If I heard correctly this morning the NY Times and FoxNews found one of (or the) alleged ringleaders of the attack and interviewed him. This may have already been mentioned somewhere at the Cave.

I thought Bambam was going to find these people and bring them to justice, but maybe the US government doesn't have the resources of the media.

Of course, my thoughts are if they kill our people we ought not try to bring them to justice. We need to just kill them back.

As to the idea that the Clinton's are perhaps not the source of the leak because they need MAObama to help pay off campaign debts, I am skeptical of that, but who knows?  Perhaps a few patriots are left in the American government and not just a bunch of leftist stooges willing to deposit their brains in MAObama's Memory Bank.

I'm not skeptical of this.  I think that it came from Bill, and I also think Hillary knew nothing of the leak.  Bill has more than a few friends in the State Department (and the Democratic Party)--old friends that he has things owed from.  He calls in the chips and asks them to release these emails to 'unidentified reporters.'  They make their way to the proper news outlets, after changing hands a few times, and BAM!  Obama is revealed as a liar, and at the worst possible time in the campaign.

I was going to speculate on the logistics of something like this, but it would read too much like a spy novel.

I find the notion of campaign debts and Hillary needing Barry unbelievably far-fetched.

But I'm not privy to the numbers, so like you say, who knows?

But with Slick Willie having knocked back a really nice book deal and the royalties and the perks and bennies that former presidents get (yeah, okay, his Secret Service bennies expired after 10  years), I would find it incredible and implausible that Hillary needs cash to pay off anything other than her hairdresser, who dumped her for terminal moonbatism.

Many thanks toEupherand BlueStateSaint for their comments.  Like I said, I tend to believe the Clintons are behind the leaks, and that their various minions were the leakers.  I doubt they did it directly.

Somebody I know objected today to the idea of the Clintons sponsoring the leakage, saying "Then why is Hillary condemning the leaks?"   

Oh yes!  VERY naive!
