I've watched this a couple of dozen times and I'm still amazed by it. Just incredible.
That spin he went into could have killed him. The g-force you're putting on your blood vessels, especially in and around your eyes, he could have done some major damage. You would think they would anticipate that happening, but I couldn't say for sure. I know planes can go into a flat spin at high altitudes because your controls are sluggish and you can't react quickly enough.
And when you hit mach 1, you're going a mile every 5 seconds. Buddy, that's moving on!
Well, good for him. I really don't know how much higher someone can go, but I suspect that's about the edge of where you can do this type of thing and still have some margin of safety, if you can call it that. Probably someday someone might jump from a space capsule and try re-entry with some type of special suit. Won't be me.
