Consider this: Anthony "The Turk" Janszoon van Salee, son of the president of the Republic of Salé in Morocco, was among the earliest and richest settlers of Manhattan island, a devout Muslim, and the ancestor of Cornelius Vanderbilt, the Whitneys, Humphrey Bogart, and, according to family lore, Jacqueline Bouvier. If I recall correctly it is an Arabic word. They also preserved the works of the Greek and Roman philosophers while the West locked the texts away in monasteries. Islam has a fascinating and rich history that is too often ignored.

These morons insist on giving so much credit to Muslims but they mention and bypass a clear cut fact.  Not all Arabs are Muslims.  Arabs may have made many discoveries, but that doesn't mean the Muslims get the credit .  

By their thinking , all the inventions and works of art from Europe should be credited to Christianity.

It's bullshit about how the Moslems "saved" ancient wisdom and science.

Ancient wisdom and science survived in the Moslem world simply because it was left alone, to collect dust.  The medieval Moslems had no idea what it was, or what to do with it, and as it didn't appear to be anything threatening to them, just left it alone.

That's all it was; they didn't go out of their way to save it.  They just left it alone, nothing more than that.
