Resorting to highly unusual language for a man who weighs his words carefully, the 61-year-old politician evoked the rise of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party to highlight the threat that Greece faces, explaining that society "is threatened by growing unemployment, as happened to Germany at the end of the Weimar Republic"...


The unprecedented storming of Greece's defence ministry by hundreds of protesting dockworkers on Thursday – a breach of security not seen in modern times – has especially unnerved officials. On Friday, Samaras lashed out at "those who don't understand the meaning of law and order".

Pre-war Germany was a huge country full of incredibly industrious people, and despite the Treaty of Versailles, their government retained financial sovereignty.

Greece is a tiny country full of lazy, entitled socialists, and they years ago ceded sovereignty to the European Union.

Germany was able to quickly develop a world-class military, then attack and nearly conquer a continent before being stopped by America and the Russian winter.

The most the Greeks can do is field a few hoodlums.

And if they get violent, they'll destroy the country's only significant industry, tourism.

Lenin's Red Army pretty much contained nothing but assorted thugs, scoundrels, thieves, rapists, and murderers.  It isn't like anyone has the political will to militarily intervene in Greece, they aren't Muslim after all.

You know, back in my salad days when I was young and green in judgement, Turkey invaded Cyprus to protect the minority Turks there against the rapacious majority Greeks.

This was in 1974; I hoped Turkey would take the whole thing.

I've never been sure if in my then-immature judgement if I supported the right side, but I'm pretty sure I did.

They pretty much already have.  Ever since the 1980's, I refused to consider Greece as a trip simply because the airline security in and out was/is a ****ing joke.

Oh, and DUmmies?  Right-winger in Greece is only slightly to the left of Mao.  All you need now are a few little red books and some reeducation camps, and it'll be complete.

They were very much more secular at that time.  The ol' Ottoman Empire had the same problems with the muzzies then, that Europe is having now.  Up until about that time, Turkey was a staunch NATO member and a fairly firm US ally.
