missing in action
« on: October 04, 2012, 09:34:07 PM »
Hey, I'm missing two of my good buds.

One is JohnnyReb, who's been here every day since he first joined conservativecave; he hasn't been around since September 29, 2012, and I'm worried.  Has anyone heard from him, why he's gone?

Damn.  He's a really good friend.

And then there's the crusty old curmudgeon, John C Calhoun, who hasn't shown up since February 2, 2009; I suddenly remembered I hadn't seen him for a while.

Anybody know what's up with that?

Yes i have noticed that Allosaurus has not been around either. As someone once told me, people will go off and do their own thing for awhile. Sometimes they come back and sometimes they don't.
I think it is important to have at least one personal contact outside of here. If someone does not show up, someone else might know why and fill us in.

Frank, have you tried Emailing them????

Well, no, JohnnyReb is one of my best friends here, a personal hero of mine.

As much as one male can love another male without being perverted, I love JohnnyReb.

He was coming here every single day, bar none, since the first day he signed up.

JohnnyReb's great; a real southern gentleman.

John C Calhoun, I dunno how I missed him for so long.....

John C Calhoun I believe tested the waters and found them a tad cold.

Don't nobody get me wrong here--I like everybody on conservativecave equally.

Everybody here's colorful, interesting, and distinctive; we aren't any faceless lynch mob like the primitives.

I like everybody equally.

That being said, the members here I'd like the most to meet in person have always been JohnnyReb, NHSparky, and thundley4.  They're great.

I don't like to play favorites, because I got no favorites here.  I like everybody equally, and if anybody wants to know what I really think about them, I pull no punches.

NHSparky is awesome; a true Renaissance man, a paragon of maturity whose level I could never hope to attain, but strive for anyway.  One time, maybe about a year ago, I commented "My God" to something (I forget what; it had nothing to do with NHSparky), after which NHSparky immediately came on and commented in return, "Here."

He had no idea how appropriate that actually was.

No way.  Not at all.

We all tend to admire people who have qualities we ourselves don't but wish we did.

You, sir, are one Hell of an impressive person, and I mean that enthusiastically.

Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, you might see yourself as "just another blue collar down in rural Illinois, nothing disctinctive," but I strenuously disagree.

You're steady; you're sturdy, you're steadfast.

And your dry wit is awesome.  I don't think you have to present your wit; I think it comes out naturally, sometimes without even you realizing it.  Damn, you're good.  We're approximately the same age; if I had a friend such as you when I was growing up (don't get me wrong; I had good friends in childhood, admirable people), I would've been enriched enormously.

You don't do it here, but I suspect in real life, you'd kick my ass when I deserved it kicked, and there wouldn't be any hard feelings about it.

You're much more than what you imagine yourself to be, thundley.

Sir.

The reason one has to be careful about one's perceptions of other members is because sometimes the real person and the internet persona can be two entirely different things.

I'm thinking of John C Calhoun here, who enjoyed a reputation for being a crusty grouchy pissy old curmudgeon; that was his internet persona.

However, I happen to know that in real life, John C Calhoun is of a nature and habits that make even Santa Claus look like Ebenezer Scrooge; a great guy, a friend to all, as generous with his heart as he is with his pocket-book.

And so there's a problem.

As with delilahmused--same thing--I love you with a passon a little bit more than just platonic, and so that biases my perception.  But on those already listed, whom I know only from conservativecave, I believe my preceptions are accurate, right on the money.
