A dangerous trend, and it is coming from pure local politics.

"This is a critical election, we need to bring the locals out, it is a critical quadrennial exercise."

Here is a piece of trivia... who is good at bringing out the base in ANY election, and who is good only in November, chiefly Presidential election?

If you guessed our friends in the Right are good at this in even the special election for dog catcher, you did good. The Dems really are missing this. So even in cities like San Diego, where DEMOCRATS outnumber Republicans (and independents make the other third or so), Repubs know that if they want a shiny, they have to run it in the Primaries, or even better a special election. Why? Democrats suck at it in the off season. They really do.

So here is your exercise, after this silly season is over... ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE, and then organize some more. You want to keep whatever gains are gotten... well you cannot be off your game for 2014. (For the record, historic trends, I expect it)

I know all the dirty tricks. Want me to regale you with some of the local dirty tricks? They include true the vote, sign stealing and voter suppression. Oh don't get me started with the local churches

Still. Exactly what does the Democratic Party and Progressives do in the OFF season to get the vote out?

They organize, organize some more, then organize again... they know that. Do Democrats know this?

The base, your base, will not come out if you do not remind them and organize, organize organize.

I vote, even in the special election for dog catcher. As a political reporter I can tell you quite a bit of the dirty laundry, trust me, could use Mike Rowe to help me with the shit.IT IS DEEP. But the fact is, they organize.

The oblate spheroid forgets.

Democrats don't have to "organize."

They got some big old carbuncled guy sitting behind a desk at city hall who casts their votes for them, and for good measure, whips some more (D) votes up out of thin air.

5. Chickens have been running afoul all over this county

No, not kidding, city after city, is having people asking city councils to aprove back yard chickens. Well, El Cajon's Mayor is a tad chicken phobic (Ok he raised a good issue, the industry was destroyed with New Castle, but never quite recovered, so it is not like we have many commercial coops in San Diego county, it used to be one of the leading industries county wide)... so he voted no.

So far it is in the hands of staff and managers getting rules to make it work, since, for a change, the rest voted for it.

You could even say people are clucking about it.

In a world with climate change, where we will need to source things locally sooner rather than later, it is actually a green policy, but don't tell them. I mean, otherwise all these councils might vote it down on those grounds alone.

Oh and the Mayor is chicken phobic since he was an inspector in the 70s, when we had the outbreak. He had to do a lot of the ahem, cleanup and killing of whole flocks.

^^well, Vlada Mitty walked right into a trap without realizing it.

7. Very, if you chose to do that make sure you get your chickens from an approved breeder. It almost ensures not getting a rooster... and the birds are healthy.

Actually, from my experience this is completely backwards. If a conservative church mentions anything political the IRS gets called in. The only churches who get a free pass are the ones who allow the likes of Sharpton, Wright, Jackson, etc. to speak.

Ensenada looks like a nice place to vacation; in fact, it's probably better than hanging around San Diego.

For the illumination of those mystified about the oblate spheroid and Ensenada, it dates from last August.

For those who don't want to look it up, Ensenada seems a pretty nice place to visit, a city on the Baja California peninsula, down in Mexico.  Wikipedia calls it "Disneyland South," or something like that.

Ok this was embarrasing

We are working on a story involving native people in Mexico. So I needed to send an Email to proceso, one of the top political magazines. It took me literally ten minutes to compose an email in Spanish... my native tongue.

So, the obvious thing is I NEED PRACTICE... damn I really do. So converted my IPOD to a Spanish computer and started plotting a short piece of fiction that will be done in Spanish. It will take me longer than English, but damn I need the practice. That was well, very embarrassing.

Ten minutes. Damn!

And that story better NOT involve going down to Ensenada, there are way too many personal safety concerns on that one.

Ever since then, some of us have encouraged the oblate spheroid to get down there and come back with a crunchy story, so as to solidify her credentials as a journalist.

I was hoping it would go on, but alas it didn't.

The liberalandproud primitive killed the oblate spheroid's campfire, going off-topic and making the oblate spheroid look like a pompous expert on poultry.  It looks intentional to me, but I was hoping there'd be some more give-and-take between the two.
