I Witnessed A Conversion

First a little background. I live in an area of Columbus, Ohio that is sandwiched between two VERY well-to-do suburbs (Dublin and Upper Arlington, for those familiar with the area) and one fairly well-to-do suburb (Hilliard, which is where my kids go to school). In my neighborhood, I have seen almost no yard signs whatsoever for either candidate. One guy at the end of the street has a Rmoney sign and a Josh Mandel sign. I have seen only two other yard signs (both Rmoney signs), but at least one of them, and maybe both, are now gone (they are no longer being displayed--for what reason, I have no idea). When I've walked through the neighborhood, I haven't seen any Obama signs, but that doesn't really bother me, because I tend to think that most people in this neighborhood are like me (i.e. they're Obama supporters and will vote for him, but just aren't putting a yard sign out, 1) because it would likely be stolen, and 2) because this election is such a forgone conclusion that buying one would really be a waste of money). During the 2008 election, there were no fewer than 30 Obama signs in this neighborhood (I know because I used to count them as I went on my walks through the neighborhood).

There is one particular neighbor who lives along the main road, and has a wooden rail fence at his property line (because there's a small pool inside the fence). During all of 2008, this guy stapled McCain signs to his fence. He put up one during the primaries, and then after McCain won the nomination, he plastered like 15 of them all right next to each other, all along this fence that faces the road. So all this time I'm thinking that much like the guy who had a Josh Mandel sign in his yard, this guy is a "true believer" ideologue (because who could possibly like Rmoney or Josh Mandel if they weren't completely brainwashed?) These days, every time I drive by this person's property, I keep waiting to see the Rmoney signs stapled to the fence, but there hasn't been any signage this year (and I really expected him to start posting signs during Primary season).

Today I drove by and there were Obama signs in his yard. I'm so completely floored right now that I had to come on DU and tell the world about it. I mean, I knew that a LOT of Republicans absolutely HATE Rmoney, but I never thought they hated him so much that they would enthusiastically endorse Obama. I've met a lot of Republicans who are voting for Obama because they hate Rmoney, but they were doing it reluctantly. This guy is energized enough to buy and post yard signs. There must have been a miraculous conversion at some point along the way.

He probably had Romney signs up, and some primitive tore them down during the middle of the night, substituting signs for Barack Milhous.

That's not unheard of.

The reason decent and civilized people don't put up yard signs is simply because there's too many primitives around.

On three separate occasions, I've had political signs thrown in my ditch, stolen, or stepped on and trashed.  I am not the only person on my street to have this problem.  It's almost not worth the bother, but I like to put them up in hopes of catching the person doing it one of these days.

Meanwhile, the Obumble people's house down the street (there used to be two- one up the street, but it is now foreclosed)- their signs are/were never disturbed.

The thought of a 2nd term for this Marxist has me so scared that I have gone all in (in a very blue, divided city) with my yardsign, bumper sticker, and button.  They may kill me, but by damn, I am going down swinging.

Where I live, (even though it's Illinois...Southern) no one messes with other peoples yards.  It's just not done.  People fully understand that we are all armed or will pound them into mush.  Most of the yard signage in this area, what little there is, is for local elections.  Some State level.

I had a car keyed with a Bush Cheney 2000 sticker. This year I bought a beater truck for $600 (the state will buy it from me for a grand) and have anti-0bama stickers on it. So far no damage that I can discern. Nobody yelling at me in traffic and have yet to be cut off although I would probably just run into them.

I used to fantasize about catching some occupy type squirrel  vandalizing my conservative bumper stickers.  Not anymore.  I know that if I were to catch someone in the act it would most likely be some 83  year old moon-bat woman who would spit in my face when confronted.

A very large number of people live in HOA's that forbid any kind of sign or flag, even Old Glory from being displayed.

Some Yankees tried to get around this by taking a white bed sheet and painting their choice on the sheet and hung them in their windows ---Inside their Homes---

The HOA's took them to court anyway and as the HOA's had more money for a court fight  the owners took them down.

Some HOA's in Maine even objected to political bumper stickers on Autos parked in the owners  open car ports.   

Then the nuts, one woman was fined for attaching a Christmass wreath to the side of her home, NH. an old timer a former POW put up a small POW flag attached to his home and got his butt sued off.  He had the entire town behind him, he fought, he lost.

Darn if I wish to live as the Chinese do with unisex clothing, all homes identical, all hair cuts the same, all shoes the same, then I move to a place with a HOA in America where I need permission from some stranger to to plant a rose bush or own a red car.

Never know what will come up next even for those that do not belong to a HOA, lived in one of these areas that after 10 years decided to form one.    I would never join, but it did not stop the members from trying to get ME to follow their rules.

Perhaps the people are afraid to put up political signs, -------Good grief, what are we becoming ??????

Since when do campaign signs cost money to anyone but the candidate?    Unless of course this misfit is equating donating to Obama is a waste of money, in which case I totally agree.
