Lottery winner who kept taking food stamps is found dead in Ecorse

Amanda Clayton, the Lincoln Park woman who caused a stir after continuing to take food stamps after winning the state lottery’s $1-million “Make Me Rich!” game show, has died of a possible drug overdose, police said Saturday.
 
Clayton was found dead by police at about 9 a.m. at a home on Sunnyside Road, said Ecorse Police Sgt. Cornelius Herring.
 
No further details were released by police, including what she was doing at the home.

Clayton was propelled into the spotlight after a local news outlet learned she had won the game show in September 2011, but continued to take welfare benefits. At the time, she said she was entitled to the payments because she still needed help. . .

They have a tendency to agree with the OP a lot, especially if the first one or two responses agree - then comes the parade.

If someone were to post that Obama said "Raccoon shit is blue", and then provide an imaginary link, the first response would be along the lines of "I've read about that somewhere", then a "+1,000", and soon a parade of people seeking DU-acceptance.

One guy half way through, with only a few hundred posts, might display doubt, and be shouted down with cries of "buh bye", "RW troll", "that's racist", and the like.

They are nothing if not predictable.

These lottery payouts are structured, often over 20 years. If that's the case here, she would have received $50K/year for 20 years. After taxes, that's about $35K/year. (You are often given the choice of a one-time single payout, but it's much, much less than the stated amount.)

If she were juggling a lot of debt when she won, it's easily conceivable that she could have gone through her first payout very quickly and have been cash poor enough to warrant reliance on food stamps or other assistance, certainly in the first year after winning.

Yeah that's it she was being responsible with her winnings, paid off all her debts and ended up being poor again and deserving of food stamps.

Overall I have to agree.  There's a reason many of the primitives (and liberals in general) live from hand-to-mouth and it's because they don't know how to handle money.  And when they can't and others can, then all they have left is to claim life isn't fair, the playing field needs to be leveled, and taxes must be raised on the rich to be given to them.  It's their solution to everything.

It's why money given to the perpetually poor never helps them escape poverty.  If the left really wanted a gov't program to help the poor, they would press for one which would involve items being given to the poor they actually need to have, and then following up to see that it was being used correctly, not EBT cards and the like where the recipient can abuse the intended use.  But "compassion" to liberals has nothing to do with actually helping the person, but rather to relieve the selfish conscience of liberals who can then tell themselves "I tried to do something."  Whether it works or not has no bearing.

We all know these things to be true, but the libs need to be reminded they aren't fooling anybody by claiming they care when it's more than obvious they don't.
