For some reason, I thought it was an afternoon game.  Maybe it'd been scheduled that way, and updated, but I didn't see it updated.  I dunno.  This happens a lot.

There's still much resentment down here in Nebraska, about the way the effete easterners are trying to make the Nebraska-Iowa game into a "rivalry."  Iowa ain't nothing, never has been.  It's like they were looking at a map, and said, "oh, look, Nebraska and Iowa are right next door to each other, and so they're two peas in a pod, like each other, and so they'd be good rivals."

Bah humbug.

Iowa doesn't resemble Nebraska any more than Bolivia does.

The majority fan sentiment in Nebraska is that Wisconsin evolve as our main rival.

GOOD!  I think everyone in the Big 10 are rivals, but that's just my opinion. Everyone knows the crap teams though, so those kind of rivalries are laughable.

I was at the local VFW Club picking up Saturday supper, and while waiting for the cashier to give me my change, I happened to catch a glimpse of the television, seeing what was probably a replay of something in the Ohio State-Michigan State game; I guess the winning touchdown.

The guy in the cubicle must be making nice-nice with a secretary in the office, instead of tending to business.

For these "live scoreboards" on the internet, what they have is guys sitting in cubicles, each watching a different game on television, and punching the numbers into the web-site as they happen.

Especially during evening games, sometimes it's a long time before the guy gets back to punching in the numbers.

"When the cat's away, the mice will play....."

Leaving all the rest of us wondering what's going on.

I have to say that unlike a certain quality of individual Nebraskans, the Nebraska football team itself has never been a good "come-back team."

If the score's Wisconsin 21, Nebraska 3 at the end of this first quarter, game's over.  It's done.  Wisconsin's won.

Despite its greatness on the gridiron, that's always always always been Nebraska's weakness.

The best come-back I ever saw, which certainly has to rank as one of the most spectacular outcomes in the history of college football, was near the end of the Ohio State-UCLA game, in either 1978 or 1979; I forget which.

By fortuitous random chance, that game was one of only perhaps a dozen college football games I'd ever watched in their entirety, from start to finish.

UCLA was ahead of Ohio State by six (I think it was six), with only about a minute to go in the game.

Ohio State got the football way back at its 5- or 10-yard line.

Well, there was only about a minute to go; it looked as if UCLA had already won.

The Ohio State quarterback, Art Schlichter, unerringly threw pass after pass after pass, connecting every single time.

I never in my life saw such perfection in passing.

Ohio State won that game.

I then decided Art Schlichter had to be the best, the greatest, college football player of all time.

Well, he probably was, college.  But then he turned pro, and got all corrupted.

The guy in the cubicle who's supposed to be punching in the numbers isn't doing his job.

He's probably bouncing around on the carpet with a secretary.

Either that, or partaking of Jim Beam from a drawer in his desk.

These guys really need to have the boss hang around after hours, to be sure they do their job.

This is really a pain; he's supposed to be in his cubicle watching it on television and punching in the numbers as they happen.

And I assume he's well-paid for doing that.
