In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.

Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.

What does it cost, bare minimum, to run the WH at an effective level? No vacations except to Camp David, no golf trips except to local military bases, two state dinners per year, etc.

Every dollar over that should come out of POTUS's pay.

I thought the President and First Lady had a travel allowance (I think it was $90,000/year each).

This is infuriating.

I don't begrudge some of the Presidential perks. After all in most cases it is a 24/7 job.

I would be interested how Obama and crew expenses compare to previous Presidencies , adjusted for inflation.
