Fall Has Fallen
« on: September 22, 2012, 12:33:15 PM »
As of 09:49, CDT, the Autumnal Equinox occurred this morning.

Let me be the first to wish those of you affected, "Happy leaf raking and/or blowing and/or mulching and/or composting and/or burning!"    :cheers1:

Fall is upon us. Temp was 66o this morning and it's 91o now predicted to top off at 93o.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Sunny and hot outside.  I keep moving my car around so it stays in the shade while I work on it. :-)

I hope we get lots of snow this winter. I have an "automatic" snow plowing job for a neighbor down the street - a minimum of $40 for about 15 minutes of plowing.

I saw something on The Weather Channel's site that says that the East is going to have a lot of precipitation this year.  Don't k now if you live in the East, though.

There is a frost warning tonight, the low is supposed to be 33 degrees.   I'm hoping that we do get a good amount of snow this winter, just so I get the full Omaha experience.   :-)

Once a year is enough for me.

Enjoy.

edit: spend a few dollars for snow tires.  New ones are not expensive and can be had for around $200 a set.

We're ready. Both vehicles are AWD, the tractor's ready, or will be when I change over from the mowing deck to the blade. Boiler works fine, plenty of firewood.

95 degrees here today.  Hoping for a good winter here this year, last year we didn't have a hard freeze, and the bugs have been hellish!

64 degrees here. The leaves turned color OVERNIGHT. In Iowa its like God flips a switch. One day its summer, the next its fall. No transition period at all.

We need a long, cold winter. We've had no winterkill for the varmints or pests in several years. I've shot 23 chipmunks so far this year.

I went to the fair and it was  a PERFECT day.  Not hot and the sky was perfectly blue with not a cloud in the sky.  I even have my riding boots on today with my skinny jeans and red gingham button down.  :yahoo:  I feel great!

They make good fertilizer for the grass next year.  We just mow over the leaves with a mulching mower.

I despise raking leaves......

My dad used to punish us kids that way. We would have to rake 4 acres of leaves in the front yard.  It was horrifying and worked way better than any belt would.  I also had the dreaded punishment of raking up these little white pebbles any time I misbehaved.  They seem to grow because they would show up and still show up year after year  :panic:

I found with the leaves I could steal the key to the riding lawn mower and go in a clockwise pattern over the whole yard and get the leaves into one big pile, cut up of course but it was way easier to do that then plain raking.  That is why I got the pebbles, he found out
