I wonder why Google ignored Memorial Day?
They usually have a special Google logo for holidays but today it is just the plain google logo. Heck, they had a special Halloween one last year so why do they ignore a holiday such as Memorial day?

We have to stop glorifying the killing of people in other places just because they live in a place that has something someone else wants.

What is the difference between our government sending a kid barely out of high school to kill people on someone else's turf and a ruthless gang trying to take over someone else's turf? I don't see much difference.

11. WTF are you talking about?
Memorial day is an AMERICAN holiday to honor AMERICAN servicemen & women who gave their lives in EVERY war. I don't expect other countries to celebrate it. I don't understand how you came up with the Nazi Germany angle.

15. Sacrifice for what?
You are glorifying killing people as something good. You are part of the problem. Have you even been in the military?

We need to stop glorifying war. The men and women in the battle zones in any war are just canon fodder, a number, an entry on a piece of paper or now, a computer data base.

There are much better ways to settle our differences that to keep attacking others, which in reality doing the same thing over and over and over again.

Well, some of them ave the right idea.

Maybe there is a possible bridge.

I have been thinking deeply about how to bridge the divide between us and them.  Maybe we need to find some common ground and go from there.

I am serious -- I think not all DUmmies are dummies, but we can't find them.

Just a thought (the "hundreds of millions" comment is one we certainly can't bridge).

To be blunt about it...you don`t see the difference because you are willfully idiotic.

Our troops are not fighting and dying for anyones personal gain no matter how much you wish to believe it.
That is your motivation in life so you ascribe it to everyone else but it is not so.

They are fighting to stop the advancement of a belief system that would kill all of you in a heartbeat...militant islam has no room for atheists or humanists despite you thinking that if it conquers western capitalism it is a good thing.

Our soldiers are the finest humanity has to offer and you piss on them, may your miserable soul rot for eternity in the hell you delude yourself into thinking doesn`t exist.

This gets brought up every year, and every year Google refuses to acknowledge Memorial Day.  Lenin's birthday?  They want to make that a week-long celebration!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I think freedumb2003 did exactly that.

I'm concerned.

I used to think there was a bridge somewhere, and I've been all the way up and down the river.

No bridge nowhere.

I surely hope our esteemed colleague freedumb2003 recovers from that nasty bump.

DUers are totally unreachable. Those who are no longer on DU are either those who are too far to the left for even DU or those who actually have enough sanity to leave and never come back. This last group is probably the ones freedumb2003 is thinking about. Relative sanity and all that...

I actually did get an answer a few years ago from Google about Memorial Day.  At that time they claimed that Memorial Day was a uniquely American holiday which would not mean anything to the rest of the world.

Considering the absurdity of that statement, and the essay-length reply it would have taken to refute it, added to the fact I would be ignored anyway, I did not respond.

^doesn't surprise me. Yet Google is an American company based in America. They don't have a problem with Persian or Chinese New Year and a host of other off-the-wall celebrations that mean nothing to most of the world.
