My facebook post today-was it a mistake?
I never, ever post on facebook (I troll) but today I posted Romney's 47% comment and was so furious I posted the following: Ok- I don't usually do this but here goes-I am one of that 47% and tired of feeling shamed for it! Life has thrown me more than one curveball- but NO ONE is going to tell me I do not take personal responsibility for my life! I did not pay any federal income tax last year. I paid 7000+ in property taxes, 10%+sales taxes, and live below the poverty level. My focus has been on raising aware, healthy children who I hope will have safety nets available for them if they fall in bad times. I have opened my home and wallet to those less fortunate than I (I am still blessed) and have accepted help from my caring neighbors when I needed it. I work multiple part time jobs, but I need healthcare and Pell grants to raise my children out of poverty.I am not a victim and I believe the government has a responsibility to take some care of those who struggle. If you think that is wrong BRING IT ON!
I'm feeling vulnerable since I don't share how difficult day to day life is for me. Even here I feel ashamed saying I didn't pay (owe) any federal income tax last year  I would love to make enough to pay, but I do pay plenty of tax... Just looking for feedback. Peace
::)

Agreed. I have a dear friend who lives in the greater Chicago area and paid just over $7000 in property tax last year...on a 4000 sq. ft home valued at a bit over $500,000. One really can't plead poverty with that kind of an asset.

If she moved into a Buick she could save on those property taxes and maybe even move her "home" to a state in a less chaotic economic state where the consumption tax is lower.

My husband died 4 years ago, leaving me a half-built house(he was putting on an addition) and three kids. I almost have the house done one board at a time. Even if I could sell it in this market, my kids won't let me cause "dad built it"

Uh-huh.

$7,000 in property tax? That would be a couple hundred thousand dollar house. She is full of it.

Property taxes, sales taxes, and utility taxes go to LOCAL and STATE government. If you don't pay taxes to the federal government where is your skin in the game and why should you be allowed to vote at the federal level?

1/2 bong!
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

She should pay those property taxes with a smile on her face.  The largest share of property taxes go to fund salaries and retirement benefits of teachers, police, firefighters and other civil servants that are almost all good union people.  :-)

Sounds like somebody has a whooooole lot of money coming in that doesn't fall into 'Taxable income,' like life insurance proceeds, principal distributions from a trust, or an inheritance.  And she is hiding the ball on it to make herself sound po'.
