Almost 18 months ago I shared these sketches, which didn't
go over very well here.

I'm not an engineer. I've worked in construction and read
lots of books on building and I operate a lot in the failure
mode through taking on the repair of hopelessly broken stuff
other people consider garbage, and when I'm building stuff
for my own use I deliberately underbuild it to try to generate
instructive failures. My first project was as a
five-year-old--a chair that provided an interesting (and
instant) shear failure when I sat on it.

I have reason to believe that one of these days you're going to
see some diagrams from more authoritative sources that look
something like these.

Clearly you can't see that for the top of the tower to fall through the
lower part of the tower would not be like a piledriver pounding a pile
but like trying to pound a rake with another rake.

Actually, since the lower rake is more robust than the pounding rake,
this updated version is more apt.

It was too expensive.  Probably couldn't afford the kerosene, anyway.  :rotf:

I would dare to assume that most of us here are in the upper 1%-20% of the population intelligence-wise. We must come to the realization that the majority of the population is in the lower 80% to 99% percent of the bell-curve. WE are not the norm. The Republicans understand that the average American is not very bright. They cater and pander to the masses. The Democratic Party tries to appeal to the population about "issues" that these people just don't understand.

With such l33t paintbrush skills as this DUmmie clearly possesses he has no need for Autocad or Correldraw, let alone chicken wire and kero.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I believe it's a troofer post, and the moron thinks the towers should have failed in the middle by spreading out horizontally at the point of impact, instead of collapsing more-or-less vertically with relatively little horizontal dispersion above ground level.  It's the work of a world-class buffoon, and no more an engineer than TiT was a SEAL.

No, Dixie, I think that might actually have been correct in this context, which I finally figured out. "Shear" as in physics, a stress force.

(It only took dumb ol' me about eight posts to figure out that those grossly rudimentary drawings are supposed to illustrate why 9/11 couldn't have happened the way it did without a set-up implosion.)

What they actually illustrate is that petgoat is not only a crappy draftsman and non-genius, he's probably mentally ill into the bargain.

well kudos to you for figuring it out! LOL. I honestly read "shear failure" and thought, "utter failure", not a mechanical description. Then again, I'm not a civil engineer tee hee. I doubt the goat is either but hey...
