Family Reunions
« on: September 16, 2012, 05:04:41 PM »
I went to a family reunion over the labor day week end. I had a wonderful time.
One of my cousins has been working on our family tree. We visited the Family Cemetery and she told us who these people were and how we were related to them. It was very interesting.

I have a relatives there that fought in the Revolutionary war, the civil war and many wars since then.
She traced our roots back to Ireland. I if I decide to can join the DAR and the Mayflower clubs with my ancestry.

Gee who'd a thought it from a little country girl from Florida...

It was fun seeing people I hadn't seen in many decades, and meeting more that have been born and raised since then too.

I had such a good time I just wanted to share my experience with you guys.

Times are changing. Our family reunions used to be big. Modern times have changed that. Youngsters have to move away for better jobs or just to get a job and families are getting smaller. Families aren't as close as they once were. So if you get a chance at a family reunion, take it. I imagine they will soon be a thing of the past.

...and to add a little conspiracy theory to it...think social engineering by big gov.. Break the strong family bonds, divide and conquer.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Shoot.  My family reunion is a 10 person table.  The elders got in a war and stopped talking to each other many years before.

My family reunion would consist of my daughter & I. That's all that's really left. I have biological relatives from my paternal side, but the last time I saw most of them was 1981.

My family reunion would be pretty big, since most of my family's still in the area, and we're fairly close-knit.  Not too many lefties in my clan.

My wife's family reunion in August was attended by about 40 people. And since I'm keeper of the family tree (7728 people now, going back to 1550) , I updated much of her family's (both sides) information.

We're looking forward to the reunion next year.

My family? Nah. No such thing as reunions.

Thanks for sharing guys, I feel blessed I still have this much family left and they like each other. That was my Dad's side of the family, my Mom's side is a lot smaller and more spread out.

I grew up knowing my Dad was one of eight kids. I was wrong...as it turns out he was one of twelve kids. Way back then they had a lot of babies die at birth or in the 1st or 2nd year after birth. So was the case with four of the babies. They had grave markers for baby boy son of ___________.

Next year I am going to try to get my sons and their kids to go with us. They would love it. I just know they would.
