Sudan rejects US request to send Marines to secure embassy
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:35:50 PM »

Sudan has rejected an offer by the United States to send Marines to increase security at the U.S. embassy in Khartoum, where violent protesters have clashed with police.

The announcement Saturday follows earlier reports that the United States wanted to send the Marines to bolster security at the embassy amid heavy protests and demonstrations, according to Reuters.

â€œSudan is able to protect the diplomatic missions in Khartoum and the state is committed to protecting its guests in the diplomatic corps,'' Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti told the state news agency SUNA, which Reuters reported.

A U.S. official said Friday that an elite Marine rapid response team was heading to Sudan, following Sudanese police firing on protesters trying to climb the walls of the U.S. Embassy.

no problem.  An AC-130 Spectre ought to take up the slack for the Marines the sudanese governemnt wont allow in to protect our Embassy.  In fairness, they should warn the skinnies to keep their heads down.

Why are we even asking permission...errr...offering to send Marines?

Why are we telling the Sudanese we ARE sending Marines to guar OUR embassy and they can either clear the road when we arrive so they can get there as fast as possible...or die as me clear our own path?

Since when does the President of the U.S. ask permission from 3rd world shit hole to protect our own people/property?

That's what a simple minded, unqualified, non-American pretend president asshole does, expecially when he hates our military forces.

Not really; they aren't really totally sovereign territory the way people commonly think they are, though they're customarily treated that way, but even if they were, in the absence of a Star Trek transporter beam, you still have to move anything like more Marines into them through the host nation's sovereign territory.  The Marines themselves do not have full diplomatic status, nor do a lot of the embassy support staff, they have something that's a notch lower.

They could be airlifted in. If Sudan shot down one of our choppers, there would be hell to pay.

That's just dumb, because it's an overt violation of their sovereignity.  It would make a damn' sight more sense to just pull the embassy out.

Nah, just let Sudan know that they are 100% on the hook for defending our embassy and that any Marines already there are for self defense only. Any breach of the grounds or harm to personnel will be regarded as an act of war by Sudan on America.

Using the toilets in that country is to much aid.

I'd be generous....give 'em a $1 and tell 'em to buy a cone of ice cream.
