Can Mitt even GET a security clearance?

Somewhat lost in the noise during Mitt's foreign policy meltdown this week is the news that he isn't yet getting the traditional presidential candidate's intelligence briefings. I've read a couple of explanations for this.

First, it was reported that Mitt's campaign hadn't asked for them.

Now it seems that the government requires a security clearance for the candidate in order to get the briefings.

Hmmmmmmm. Follow me over the jump for a few thoughts.

I've held high security clearances, as has my wife, so I know a little about the process, which gets more thorough and intrusive as the level of clearance increases.

They are looking for many things in addition to the obvious ones like financial problems, criminal convictions, etc. They want to see a life without mysterious interruptions (3 months in a Russian spy indoctrination camp?) or unexplained financial circumstances (large bank deposits? foreign bank accounts?). They can peer into EVERY nook and cranny of your life.... no, you can't say 'I'll just give you 1 or 2 years of tax returns'... they don't ask, they take...........

Waitaminit! Foreign bank accounts?

Yeah, if I got a job and was put in for a high security clearance, and the investigation revealed that I had a bank account in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands, or Bermuda, that would be the end of that. EVEN if I told them about it up front. They wouldn't bother to ask why, they wouldn't negotiate, they wouldn't argue with my team of lawyers and accountants. They wouldn't care that I'm already filthy rich.

Bottom line, next to a dalliance with a known Russian or Chinese spy, having a place to park untraceable money has to be the biggest red flag possible.

So it wouldn't suprise me in the least if there is a file sitting on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's desk right now with a big red DENIED stamp on it, and she's going to have to head over to the White House to figure out what to do about it.

Because if the investigators followed the rules that apply to you and I, there is NO WAY Mitt Romney legitimately gets cleared for the level of intelligence that's in the President's daily briefing.

I have no doubt that he will get that clearance, but wouldn't it be rich if word seeped out that he needed a waiver from the President?

Or that they have to scrub his briefings down to a lower security level?

2. I wonder what would happen if Romney managed

to steal the election regarding obtaining security clearance. Would he get it automatically as President or could it be withheld if he didn't pass the investigation.

This link says next week: http://news.yahoo.com/romney-receive-intelligence-briefings-233147531--abc-news-politics.html

And this link from 16 hours ago says:

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, will begin receiving regular intelligence briefings from national security officials in President Obama’s administration as soon as they are finished with the required security clearance process, The Washington Post reported.

I hope whatever briefings he gets are heavily redacted. He's a loose cannon.

Based on who currently holds the office if you're able to scam your way into the office you must get it automatically.

Barry would not qualify for a security clearance under normal circumstances. Any illegal drug use bars you from getting one, and he was fool enough to admit to it in his book.

What's the worst they will find on Romney? He tithed 9.9% one month back in 1972? Seriously the guy is damn near a saint.

Barry used illicit drugs by his own admission.  He has numerous member of his family and friends that are foreign citizens, some of these locales are hostile to US interests.   He lived in foreign countries as a citizen of those countries.  He has gaps in his record that are years long that he refuses to explain.  That is just the stuff he admits too or is obvious on a cursory review.

An investigator might further wonder where he got the money to attend Harvard.  Where was he, who was he with, and what was he doing in the time gaps? His time as a community organizer seemed to have been of no benefit to the community he was organizing, despite government funds.  What happened to those government funds?  Witnesses recount that he truly wanted to overthrow the government as a committed Marxist during his early twenties.  He is associated with several criminals whose acts he may have been complicit with.  He served on several boards with known domestic leftist terrorists.

Further, there may exist some evidence that Obama covered up a homosexual affair in order to run for office.

I would say that Obama might have some trouble of his own getting any type of security clearance.

[drivel drivel drive]

You stupid dumbasses. Your lying, groping, raping hero would have been unable to get a security clearance except that 43% of the country was actually stupid enough to elect him.

The superdupergenius security expert playinghardball obvious does NOT know about high level security clearances, because no matter how thorough and intrusive they may be for military, civil service, and contractor personnel, for ELECTED OFFICIALS, they only look back seven years and a do a criminal records check, otherwise half of them (And not just Dems) would NEVER get a clearance above 'Secret' (Which has been so overused that it is now more like 'Confidential' was during the middle of the Cold War) under the standards required of career professionals, including all three of the last Presidents.

I swear, when my son got his, they practically wanted to know everything starting from when he was in my womb. The thing to compare is how soon other candidates got their clearance, what the process was and maybe when a candidate asks for it.

Before you all get all fluttery and stuff, you might do a little research. The briefing of presidential candidates:

Quote
In accordance with a practice established by President Harry S. Truman, presidential nominees of both major political parties receive intelligence briefings at some point between the summer political conventions and the presidential elections every four years.

Yep, that's 'cause he was military.  Entirely different procedures apply to elected officials.  Presidential appointees get sort of a middlin' level, not as strict as actual professionals, but not as lax as for those elected to office.

If they are cashing a check I'm sure it is a hot check. They get all their freebies on direct deposit.
