I'm working on a history of Skins's island, to be included in the DU for guests "sticky" thread above.

I know, I know, I should be working on the Freudian analysis of the sparkling husband primitive, but things changed after Chris showed me a new (new to franksolich, perhaps old to everyone else) way to research particular primitives, and suddenly, whereas before I had mined only a few ounces of gold, I'm now digging up tons of it, and to give the sparkling husband primitive as honest an assessment as possible, I have to read and contemplate on all this new material.

So while I'm doing that, I'm expanding on the DU for guests.

Anyway.

I'm trying to think of at least five major mishaps that cost Skins's island serious credibility.

More than five would be even better, of course.

The primitives themselves cost Skins's island all sorts of credibility, but I'm thinking more of particular events.

Thus far I've come up with four, of which the Bostonian Drunkard betting the farm on Fitzmas needs no explanation.

And then there's that stupid "fund-raising" prank Doug's ex-wife tried three years ago.

That was just so stupid it still boggles the mind.

And then there was that comment by Pedro Picasso, about how Republicans purposely lost the mid-term elections of 2006, so as to do more devious things in 2008, which got quoted on the most popular talk-show on radio, bringing with it the scorn and contempt of tens of millions who had never even heard of Skins's island before.

That was just so stupid it still reels the mind.

And the fourth is when the malicious cartoon character primitive, pursuing a personal vendetta even if it meant a greater goal could not be accomplished, chased a prominent election-fraud off of Skins's island, just when she was so close, just ten bucks away, from proving George Bush stole Ohio in 2004.

She was so close, and then the malicious cartoon character primitive got her ousted, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  The malicious cartoon character thus saved George Bush's ass, and the primitives need reminding of this fact.

So those were four events that crashed the stock-market of credibility for Skins's island.

Can anyone think of any others?--I don't need links or anything, just assorted brain-cells from brains other than just mine.

Well, it may not be in the best taste to go into it, but there is always the whole Scamdy affair, with Pitt tubing it and then blaming all the Evilll ReThuglicans for killing The Best Person Ever, conveniently ignoring his own role in backstabbing the guy on DU and all those annoying "Facts" about what really went down as well.

I found out about that Google trick a couple years ago.  I love it.

I need to find some other ways to tweak Google's search feature when I have the time.

Although not a major incident, DU did get into the mainstrean press worldwide with their idiocy over the 'nekkid woman in Dick Cheney's sunglasses' story.

This is one I have never forgotten. It was yanked from DUnot long after it was first posted, but it wasn't hard to find because it was a hot topic in all the conservative media: Rush, lucianne.com, etc. . It was posted by "Starpass" in 2003. This is what they all really feel, even though they deny it.

They need to die so that we can be free. Soldiers usually did that directly--i.e., fight those invading and harming a country. This time they need to die in defense of a lie from a lying adminstration to show these ignorant, dumb Americans that Bush is incompetent. They need to die so that Americans get rid of this deadly scum. It is obscene, Barbie Bush, how other sons (of much nobler blood) have to die to save us from your Rosemary's Baby spawn and his ungodly cohorts.

A major problem with documenting the foulness that is DU is that $kammer is pretty quick to flush away anything that is going to obviously result in making his paying customers look like the hateful, viscious scum they really are, so while we and the TOS snap it up and note it, the vilest material gets deleted before it comes to the attention of anyone beyond us and $kammer himself.  IanDB1 and his putrid comment about troops' wives, for instance.

The admins cleaning up the (sub) thread where a songwriter's agent confronted TiT about his plagiarism, wiping up the evidence rather than tombstoning TiT for breaking the rules.
