My Dummy encounter....lol

SO  I was on the escalator at the airport yesterday & I heard a very upset man going off on his wife. He was rambling on and on about the airline had open seats, yet refused to allow him and his wife to sit next to each other.

The airline we flew on is known for economical non-stop flights, and if you wish to choose your seat, there is a small charge. They did not want to pay for such a luxury, so they were seated to fill up single seats.

The idiot was right behind me. Yelling "these God Damn airlines" his wife was upset also....then his conversation changed to "they don't care about us." His next words were "the all mighty dollar wins again."  :rotf:

Damn those corporations for trying to make a profit!

I  had exit row seats for extra leg room, flew non stop to an airport that has very few non-stop flights and my ticket was only $310 round trip. (with one checked bag)
I felt that was a very good price! I've paid almost $500 in the past and that included a two hour over layover and plane change, I love non stop. Layovers increase my chances of a delay and the more I sit or stand around, the more my back hurts.

Absolutely the almighty dollar won. 

He chose to keep his dollars, in exchange for seating preference.

If you're speaking of SWA, they're not cheap anymore.

If Jet Blue, US Air, or AirTran, meh.  Not a big deal paying $5-10 for a decent seat, IMO.

It's the ****ing $25 for ONE checked bag each way that pisses me off, and now some airlines are going to charging for carryon (Spirit charging $100 for a carryon for a ticket purchased at gate as of November 6th.  If you bought the ticket online it's "only" $35.)

Allegient.
Checked bags and carry on both now have charges.

I have flow as low as $39 each way on that airlne in the past....this trip my base price was $104 each way, not bad for 1900 miles

"Base" price?  Dare I ask how much it was by the time you got done?

Seriously, I'm to the point where I don't even like to fly anymore.  If it's in the same time zone, I'm driving.

I'm looking at having to do a factory acceptance test for work in Toronto in February of next year, and I'm STILL thinking of driving.

$310 round trip. Tax, bags & trip insurance (was afraid neck surgery might cause issues when I bought ticket) included. I was only in the air 2 hours 50 minutes after take off.

Non stop, Vegas to Illinois & back.

Every story of a flight seems to be a nightmare anymore.  I'm with you, Sparks.  Driving is the way to go, whenever humanly possible.  Someone at work just had a two day ordeal to get home last week, all undertaken with a one-year-old and a two-year-old in tow.  Imagine.  I can't. 

Now, what is the deal with those DUmmies pitching fits because two adults can't sit side by side for the duration of a flight?  Is it really that big of a deal?  If you're married, can't you just catch up on your conversation when you get home?  Are they really that joined at the hip?  Honestly.

I used to have to fly across the country on business several times a month. I even had to fly to St. Croix on business. I also used to work at Midway Airport in Chicago, and in my much younger days I worked for United Airlines at O'Hare.

Now (witness my recent drive from obamaville, Illinois to Tucson) I hate to fly. Getting in and out of airports is terrible, and the possibility of the strip searching is really stupid. "Take off your shoes." "Step back into the machine." "Go over into that room."

Bullshit. The only good airplane is the one parked at the gate.

About this time last year, 2 fellows needed to be in Atlanta for something. Atlanta is about 220 miles from here. One was afraid to fly and the other hated driving. They both got up at the same time of the morning(3 am ??). One drove north 45 miles to the airport in Charlotte N.C. and caught his plane. The other one left here driving south to Atlanta.

The one that left here driving thought it would be funny if he got there in time to pick the other one up at the airport. So when the flying one got off his plane in Atlanta there was a message/announcement for him to meet his limo at the front of the terminal. He walked out looking for a limo with his name on it and there sat the other fellow waiting for him.  :lmao:

Well of course.  That sounds like a 3-1/2 hour drive, at speed limit only, with a little time for a pee break. 

I think my cutoff time would be about a 12 hour drive before I would consider flying.  And that's just consider.  Maybe I could break it up into 2  6-hour travel days, and stop in a town I'd never been to, or stop and see an old friend en route.  I don't want TSA's groping me, I don't want the uncertainty of cancelled flights, I don't want the loss of control (and freedom).  Stranded on the tarmac for 14 hours?  Toilets overflowing?  If I have to go to Hell, I'll wait my turn.    / rant off.   :-)

I fly solo and $300 in gas would not even get me close to where I was going and would of taken a few days.

I love to fly and have had no problems every since I made sure no flights go through O'Hare!
